All you dieters, or people who have dieted, how did you pick you goal weight? Did you look at old photos, use BMI, pick something easily maintainable, something else?
I can't decide what I want my goal weight to be, I have a range of like 15 pounds, but I don't want to get to the top pound and give up because I "made it" when maybe I should have gone for one of the lower numbers. Looking at old photos there is a weight I think I look good, but I just don't think I would be able to maintain it and then I might get disappointed long-term.
I picked the weight that most of my clothes in my closet fit at. At 150, I'm a perfect size 8. I'm comfortable and happy at that weight and it's easily maintainable.

My wedding weight is my goal weight, I was smaller at some points in my life, but it wasn't a sustainable size for me. My wedding weight I felt good about myself, and it is a healthy weight for me.
I forgot about old clothes fitting, that sure would be nice. I think they will fit at my higher goal, so maybe I should just pick that and be happy with it. Makes it easier to reach it haha
My goal weight is based on what my doctor told me. This current doctor didn't give me one, but several years ago, one did and it seemed to be a realistic weight. If I get there and realize I could stand to lose more, I'll work on that, but I haven't been at a good weight since before puberty, so I honestly have no idea how I'll look.
Right now, my goal is to keep on a downward trend.
My goal weight is (and always has been) five pounds less than I've ever been in my preteen-adult life, which is totally unreasonable and sadz-inducing, so I wouldn't recommend that method.

My goal is to get where I will be able to maintain. I picked my high school senior year weight. I was lower at one point in my life but looking at pictures it was too small and I don't think I would be able to maintain. That said my goal weight is a little over 100 lbs to go. I have lost 20 so far ( under pre-pregnancy weight). Here's to hoping I will get there eventually!
I have a goal size right now of 10, but my body is a different composition now of fat/muscle/spread from pregnancy that I don't know what weight that is. I estimate it to be about 15 lbs from where I'm at now, but I would be happy if I was just that size solidly no matter the weight.
right now my main goal is to fit into my work clothes by mid Oct when I go back to work. easier said than done. I am obsessed with numbers so it is hard I want to weight what I did in college which will never happen but look like I did right before we were married
I generally go with a goal size, and i know the 5 pound range that puts me in that size (although post baby 2 that range is 5 pounds less than before. Mother effer)

I took my lowest weight ever and added 10 lbs lol. I'm technically hoping to go lower than my current goal weight, but I chose one I 100% know I can get to

I agree with this. Personally I HATE having to buy new sized clothes so for me it's also a financial decision.! Most of my clothes are (Australian) size 10 so that's where I prefer to be.
