I can't get to a real store before my 1.25 hour run tonight. It's going to be nasty hot still so I probably need something salty with sugar. Any ideas on what I might be able to find at a convenience store along my route? I do have a bottle of Gatorade so that might work (but my only options are orange or cucumber, neither of which I like).
Pretzels Gummi bears Cheez its A juice box (sweet merciful crap I'd have given my left arm for a juice box circa mile 13 today) Combos Ritz crackers Saltines
The small gas station convenience store I stopped at today had Gatorade chews for $2.19. I've seen them for $1.99 some places. Also, nuts, pretzels, gummy candy, raisins are pretty easily found. I've even seen some with bananas.
I was feeling pretty good, but thirsty when I got there so I tried to just get gatorade. They didn't have it. So I got vitamin water instead. Ugh. Not good. Must restock house.
I agree with most of these except peanut butter. Fat and protein take more energy to digest than carbs/sugar. When you're mid-workout, you don't have that energy to spare, so it just kind of sits there, takes up space in your stomach (uncomfortable) and doesn't help you.

ooh this is news to me. I thought the pb would help with a little salt and add staying power, but what you're saying makes sense. I've often done PB on toast for pre-fun fuel and never had trouble. I wonder if that's different than mid-run?
At least pre run it has time to start digesting. During run the blood flow is focused on leg muscles and skin for cooling, not stomach.
