We're up in the mountains for vacation. We rented a house with our best friends and their kids. The house could use some maintenance but the property is lovely - there's a very clean swimming pond on it and lots of nature. Jamie loves sitting on the side of the pond throwing rocks in, but oh man, I need the city. It's so quiet here! I went for a walk yesterday to scout out a route for a run and was convinced I was going to be attacked and no one was around to hear me scream! It's so quiet. And then, this mornign while I was running, 4 people said hi to me! It was so weird!
Also, running in the mountains is a whole different ball game than running in the city.
Hah I just had this conversation with a friend who spent a week in a cabin in the adirondacks set in the middle of 30 acres of forest. She didn't sleep all week because she was terrified of the isolation. She went for a run and was so anxious the entire time and imagining serial killers and stuff. Definitely a city girl!

It takes soooo much getting used to. Everything in our neighborhood is silent and if I keep the windows open, I hear crickets and cicadas. When I moved here, I was so lost.
Back home in my awful and crowded neighborhood, I heard my neighbors, sirens constantly, trains, cars, trolleys. Now when I go there, I'm like WHY ARE THERE SO MANY FUCKING SOUNDS?! It's hilarious.
I felt the same way running. Back home, I'd run through bad neighborhoods without thinking about it because there was cops patrolling. Here I was panicked thinking no one would find me for weeks, lol.
We were waaay out in Pennsylvania last night for a wedding. We went to an after party at a house nearby and were too impatient to wait for the shuttle back to our hotel, so we started walking. It was only a half mile down a steep hill, so we figured it was no big deal.
It was terrifying!!! The road was bitch black with woods right up to the edge of the pavement. We kept hearing rustling, which I was convinced was a rabid raccoon. Every once in a while a car came flying around a corner, and we'd leap off the road. We had glow sticks from the party, so I tied them to our backs and waved them in front to make us visible. When we got back, the shuttle driver chastised us for walking and told us he'd seen a 400 lb bear on the road the night before and someone else had seen a mountain lion recently.
That's too funny! I'm the exact opposite. I get paranoid whenever I visit my friends in NYC! I will admit I don't like being alone if I'm in the woods or something. I used to house sit at a house in the middle of nowhere and I hated that. I got nervous every time the dogs barked there at night.
Lol, I took pictures on my camera sp I'll upload them tomorrow, but Jamie just decided to sit his tush down in the middle of a little stream that runs into the pond (it's like a trickle of water, not deep). He would scoop up rocks and rain them down back into the water and then stand up victorious like "I beat nature!!"
I've been double checking all the locks on the doors and windows. I watch too much Criminal Minds
