And let's just say I wish I was related to kdrake8 because her parents were the cutest with their reaction.
NO ONE understood the big sister shirt. Only my youngest brother did and he basically had to walk the rest of them through what it meant. It felt so complicated! And then everyone was happy, blah blah, but that was it. I know I sound like a baby when I say this but no one asked how I was feeling etc and it just felt very anti-climactic. My dad was the only one who stood up and hugged me.
Then my mother proceeded to argue with me when I told her she can't share the news for another month or so... how it's so unfair of me to ask something like that etc.
Then my grandmother proceeded to tell me it's "unnatural" to find out the sex of the baby before the birth. She was comparing it to being able to choose the gender of your child before conception in a futuristic way. She said "I absolutely did not choose to find out the sex beforehand because it is not natural and it is not what god would have wanted." Umm... actually, I'm pretty sure you didn't choose to find out because you gave birth in the 1950's and it wasn't a fucking option!
Now the only person left to tell, besides friends, is my SIL. I cannot wait to tell her. She is not going to be as thrilled as she appears to be.
I'm sorry you didn't get the reaction you wanted. I really hate when everyone gets upset that they can't share YOUR news. And your grandma needs to take a chill pill.
When do you find out by the way?! I know it's a while away but what's your plan? Elective at 15w or anatomy scan?
I'm going to see when I can get my anatomy scan. My OB practice does two (one and then another one 3ish weeks later), so if I can get the first one at 16w then I'll just do that. The midwife at my last appointment said 16w is the earliest so I'm going to try to go right on that exact day!
If I'm (hopefully) still measuring ahead at my NT scan I'm going to go by those dates. That would make me 10w today so only 6 weeks to go! But, I might not be 10w yet. We shall see.

Make sure to get some good dangle shots at the NT scan so we can all agonize with you on them.

You betcha! I'll be either 11 or 12w... is that too early?
Ugh I'm sorry their reaction was so lame! How was their reaction to the announcement with v? Wonder if this is a normal second child thing, it's like meh just another one.. Ha.

A lot more excited. It was a different situation because my mom was in the hospital still so I ended up telling most people separately. I did tell my dad and brothers at the same time on my dad's birthday with a mug that said "#1 Grandpa" and they were very excited, and then told me that they had suspected it anyway because I looked a little fat
Oh, today my grandma told me she can tell I've gained weight since my last visit. I have not gained a single pound, but thanks for the confidence booster! She also told me she's never seen my skin look the way it does (which is terribly awful).
My dad once told me" a few crunches will help your stomach." Thanks, dad. Family is interesting and honestly you are gorgeous and I am jealous of your hot self!
