Tyler has a fever of 103. The only thing wrong is his temp. He has been eating, drinking, and playing like normal. The only sign something was wrong was that he felt hot. I took his temp and it was 103. I gave Tylenol and took his temperature an hour later. It was down to 101.
Right before bed I gave him a dose of Motrin. He fell asleep immediately. That was about a half hour ago. I can't help but be freaking out about a high temp. Should I wait until the morning to call the doc since everything else seems fine?

I'd make an appointment for the morning. Ari had a random fever last week that went up to 104. He had no other symptoms but we brought him in to get checked anyway. I first felt it at night (around 11), gave him advil and then brought him in the morning.

Violet had a 103 fever this week and I didn't call. She was also acting normally. I just dosed tylenol and monitored her to make sure it didn't get any higher.

We've had bouts of scary high fevers, so I think I'm desensitized now, lol. I'd do like Ruby and wait it out. If the fever persisted past 24 hours (high like that) or other concerning symptoms emerged, then I'd make an appointment.

How long did hers last? We've had fevers before, but this is the highest so far.
I would call bc I get nervous about fevers and I'm a big weenie FTM
My problem is that I am a FTM weenie mixed with a fear of calling the after hours line weenie.
I am such a weenie head too. Could your H call? The office might be closed tomorrow so either way you will likely have to talk to an after hours person. I'd call but probably make Mr. Eav actually do it

She still had a mild fever today around 100. The 103 was on Friday. I think I read that if a fever lasts longer than 3 days you're supposed to call? So since tomorrow is Labor Day, if she still has a temp on Tuesday, we'll call. I'm just not feeling ultra concerned. She just started DC (Tyler did too, right?) and I had a sore throat on Friday too. Chances are both of our kiddos picked a little bug up at school and are fighting it off.
My pedi has stressed in the past that fevers in children aren't something to get worried about unless they are 104+. He said it's just the body's normal reaction and often don't make kids feel yucky the way a high fever makes an adult feel.
If T is pulling on his ears, acting listless, refusing fluids, having dry diapers or anything like that, then I would definitely call sooner. But you can always call anyway just to ease your mind! Never feel guilty about that. That is just them doing their job.

If we decide to call, I will definitely make H do it. I feel less like a weenie calling and disturbing their labor day than calling at night.

I am thinking it is probably DC related. 4 days and he is already sick!

Absolutely FWIW, it seems a high fever is not all that uncommon with kids this age and if he eating/consuming fluids then I would wait till tomorrow too.

If it was 103 and motrin brought it down I would just wait it out. If it didn't respond to the medicine is probably call but especially when acting normally I'd just watch it for a bit.

How is your H doing?
H is doing ok, thanks! He was able to shower without help today, so that made him happy. He is slowly gaining some independence and is able to help a little with Tyler.

Oh man, I forgot your H was still recovering from surgery. Out of commission H, you back to work and now Tyler with a fever? Lady, you need a break!!
Possible teething? My kids spike high fevers when they teeth.
I know he has a tooth coming in because he has been pressing his gums with his finger in one spot. But so far he hasn't had a problem when getting new teeth, including molars. It it could be.

This. As long as medication is helping bring down the fever I would wait. Usually with a high fever it is a virus and all the doctor will tell you to do is give Tylenol/Motrin and wait it out.
J had 103-104 fevers a couple months ago and it ended up being Roseola. He had the fever for 3 days and then the rash showed up. Hope he gets better soon!

Does his fever go down with meds? My doctor always tells me to alternate Tylenol and Motrin, and if the fever doesn't go down, then to call back. Usually they last for 3-4 days and end in a rash.
