I ran my first half in the Spring. I did 12 miles the week before. It was a great training run, but I crashed in my race the next week.
I am running my redemption race next month. I am going to do another 12 mile training run, but I am trying to decide if I should do it the week before the race or 2 weeks before.
I'm training for my first half, so probably don't listen to me, ha!, but my plan calls for 12 two weeks before, and runs of 2-3-3-6 the immediate week before.
Love of my life baby boy born 11/11. One and done not by choice; 3 years of TTC yielded 4 MMC and 2 CPs, through 4 IUIs and 2 IVFs. Focusing on making the world a better place instead...and running.

I'm no expert either, and after three HMs I still die in the last 2 miles, but I do something similar to this.
I usually do 12 two weeks before my half, and then 8-10 the week before. I ran 15 the weekend before my first half because I was marathon training and I was ok - I prefer 8-10 miler the weekend before.
I did 11.7 about 1.5 week before my half this spring. I felt good and exceeded my expectations on race day.
This fall my plan calls for 12 one week before my half. My long runs are all shifted up by 1 mi (reason not important), so I'll actually hit 12 two weeks before my half. I haven't decided whether I'll do 13 one week out or step back.
