I am running my first half on Sept 14. I'm following Hal Higdon novice 1. The farthest I had ever run before this was about 6 miles.
I had been feeling great up until last weekend. After my long run (9 mi), I had some pain in my adductors on the right side. I also had blisters all over my toes but that's another story, lol. I had to do my long run on a TM, long story, I'm not sure if that could affect things?
Anyway, it felt significantly better on Sunday, so I did some upper body lifting. It felt worse yesterday but I tried to do my 5 miler. It hurt, not bad, just a nagging pain, so I cut my run short.
It still hurts today. I feel like I should rest and skip my 3 miler but I am really afraid of messing things up this close to my race. I am supposed to do 3 today, 5 tomorrow, 10 Saturday.
Pain is different than soreness. If it was just sore, I might say try a few easy miles, but if it were me, and it's PAIN, I would rest. You're so close to your race, missing a 3 miler won't matter, and it's not worth it to your overall performance to try and push through it. At this point, it's more beneficial to rest now and be able to get that 10 miler in on Saturday, and even more importantly, arrive at race day uninjured. Hope you feel better soon!

Clseale summed it up nicely, if you are in pain rest.

Thank you both so much. Unfortunately it's not sore, definitely pain. It's worst with the first few steps so I'm hoping it's nothing serious. I will rest tonight and hopefully be better tomorrow.
