I just finished the book Escape from Camp 14, by Blaine Harden. It's a nonfiction account of how a young man escaped from a North Korean prison camp. To date, he is the only person known to have successfully escaped and made his way to freedom.
It is a difficult read sometimes, because it's basically every fictional dystopian horror you could imagine, but as you're reading it, you realize this isn't something thought up by an author; it actually happened to this young man and is still happening at this moment. That, of course, is why I think people need to read it: to bring awareness to the human rights issues in North Korea.
A caveat: it's written in journalistic style. In that way, it's not the gut-wrenching emotional journey you might experience with a fictional book of similar topic. It's just very real.
