DH and I are looking to get some lightly used patio furniture on CL. I really like this wooden furniture but DH is concerned with the wood wearing down quicker than the metal. He would rather get a metal patio set.
I have only had metal but really like how this wooden one looks.
What is your opinion- wood vs metal? The metal one doesn't come with Patio umbrella but we can always pick it up. We have negotiated on price so no need to factor it in.
We have wooden patio furniture and keep it covered when not in use. No issues whatsoever. Sometimes the cushions get damp if we get a big storm but the wood hasn't been affected. The cushions dry after a few hours in the sun anyway.

My parents have a mix of wood and metal stuff around their house. We have all metal in a few areas. The wood stuff will need sanding, staining, and refinishing to keep it looking nice unless it is teak. Teak needs to be oiled regularly, but it's not as time consuming. Their wood stuff looks horrible now since they aren't able to do the work to maintain it. My Dad would redo the pieces every other year to keep them nice.
I like our metal stuff better, but you have to keep the umbrella inside when it's not in use. Our umbrella got picked up one night in a storm before we could get to it and it threw the glass and metal table across the yard. It didn't shatter, but the frame broke. We keep our stuff covered with cover's from Lowe's. Get deck boxes to store the cushions if you can. Then you don't have to haul them in and out.
The wooden set for sure. Metal can get really hot in the summer and you might accidentally burn your arms or legs. Yes, I speak from experience. I also like wicker. Target has a pretty good sale right now online. I just ordered a wicker loveseat this week.
I personally would never get wood. It gets ruined very quickly. I have a friend that bought a very expensive wood set from Pottery Barn and within a year it was ruined from the weather, splintering, etc. It looked like crap so they junked it. I have a metal/glass table from home depot. the chairs are metals with big cushions to sit on. We've never had a problem with the chairs getting hot. We have a large umbrella that shades it all. We've had the set for 6 years now and it still looks like new. same with friends and my in laws that have sets that are similar in style.
Amy- how do you keep it covered when not in use? This set has an umbrella in the middle.
The covers are from Lowe's or Home Depot, I can't remember. And the umbrella is stashed in the garage when we're not using it. We rarely get it out anyway - most of the time when we sit outside it's in the evening as the sun's going down.
