I am throwing a baby shower for my friends. I am not sure about all the food. It is going to be outside at a park. We have access to electricity. It will probably be hot out because it is at the end of the month. It is suppose to start at 1:00p. Do you think people will be expecting lunch or do you think they will have already eaten? I think they will be expecting lunch, but maybe I am wrong.
I am already planning on having a lot of bottled water, lemonade and soda. Mostly water. Also, a fruit tray, veggie tray. Gold fish crackers, chips. Desserts: a cake, cookies and maybe some crispy treats. When we originally talked about food we were thinking it would start later and we had talked about having sloppy joes in case people wanted something bigger to eat. I was thinking maybe some sort of cole slaw if doesn't have mayo in it. What should I add?
I haven't had to do food for a baby shower before, so I'm kind of stuck.
i'm doing the food for a baby shower this weekend, but it's inside, so i don't know how much help this is.
i'm doing mini chicken salad croissants, pimento cheese finger sandwiches, fruit skewers, caprese skeweres, veggies & dip served in individual baguettes (i saw a picture on pinterest, i'm not good at describing it,) and lemon bars.
it's from 2-4 so i figured i'd just do snack-type finger foods. none of these things would do well outdoors unless you have everything in huge tubs of ice.
i would NOT do sloppy joes. you want stuff that is easy to eat and not messy.

This is what I was going to suggest. Finger foods always seem to be a great idea for baby showers.
If you really want to do a meal and you're planning on outside - you can always have a cook-out if you have access to a grill.

I don't think it is unreasonable to expect lunch at 1. I would expect lunch at 1, which is why I thought others would. I just want to have enough food and appropriate food for everyone. Outside isn't my favorite option, but it is what we have. There is a nice shelter that we get to use, so I am hoping for not super hot and a breeze. If it is outrageously hot, I guess I will have to figure something else out. We do have access to a grill, so I could grill burgers and hot dogs. I'm not a super confidant cook/griller, so I would have to suck it up or I would have to figure out someone who would be more comfortable with cooking the food. I did forget to mention in my original post that it is a couples shower, so maybe grilling would be a good option.
