Do you have a knife block? Is out on your countertop? I do and I wax and wane about whether or not to throw the block out and store the knives in a drawer. It's just so darn bulky. Drives me nutty.
Do you think it looks like a clunky mess resting on your countertops?
Mine is on my counter. I go through so many knives (steak, chopping and otherwise) in the course of a day that it's too handy not to.
I also don't have a lot drawer space and if I did store my knives in a drawer I'd like a dedicated drawer so I don't slice my fingers everytime I dig in one.
Is it clunky on my counter? Probably? Do I care? NO. I have to function IRL and easy wins out.
I will say though, I keep very little on my counter. Microwave, utensil crock, basket of baby stuff, coffee pot, knife block and that's it. I have tons of counter space so it's nowhere near as much as it seems.
Mine is on the shelf that we have in our kitchen because we don't have the counterspace for it. When we redo our kitchen the knife block is not coming back. We will most likely do a wall-mounted knife holder.
We have our knife block on the counter. I like the idea of the magnetic strip but I'm afraid of serial killers. H is pretty insistent on keeping the knives in the block because it's a fancy set and he thinks that putting them in anything other than a manufacturer-sactioned device will hurt them. There are things that are meant to hold knives in a drawer.
We have them on 2 magnetic strips, one above the other. Each one has 4-5 knives on it with the bigger ones on the top one and the smaller ones that we use all the time on the lower one. We have the counter space for a knife block, but I much prefer the magnetic strips. I'm all about vertical storage.

I have a kapoosh that doesn't have spots specific for different knives you can just put whatever ones you want in there which is best for me because I buy open stock specific for what I use and like best.
We have 2 knife blocks on the counter. One is flipped upside down and sits on top of the other one so it doesn't take up a ton of space. I'd prefer to not have the block but we don't have the option for a knife drawer. I hope to get one of the ones that Jenni232323 posted soon.

We currently have a knife block on the counter, but I don't love that arrangement. I'd rather have the magnetic strip on the wall, but H has an odd fear of knives and he says that he wouldn't like having all the knife blades showing. He likes them hidden in a knife block. I know, he's weird.
