Last night we had an insane lightening storm. I was standing at the window in the kitchen and I saw this huge flash, and it sounded like a gun went off. It was nuts. Poor Diva was hiding in our bedroom.
This morning I went downstairs to walk on the treadmill and my screen no longer works.. The belt works, and the buttons to change the speed work, but I have no clue how fast, or how far... PLUS the TM has cable hook up so now I can't watch TV (FWP right there)..
Is this something homeowners might cover? I feel dumb even asking, BUT dang man, the screen is kind of important.
FWIW: The lightening also killed our wireless router, and cable box. :N: So it's not totally out of the realm of possibility that it also killed the treadmill screen.
I don't have any proof of purchase or anything of that sort; it was given to me by my dad about 2yrs ago.

Ugh, I'd be so mad! You can call, but it's possible that your deductable may be higher than the value of the treadmill. But if it turns out that there are other things that were damaged, maybe in the end, it's worth it.

Yes it probably will. Lightning hit my parents' house maybe 10 years ago and it fried every single thing that was plugged in. Homeowners replaced it all, but be warned because their rates went up a crazy amount after that.

Of course..... I hate our homeowners so hard. We have citizens; it's expected to go up some astronomical percent anyways.

Called ins. $1000 ded. The treadmill is/was worth more than that, but It was FREEEE to me.. and I can find one on CL for cheaper than that. Looks like i'll be going back to the gym, or doing time based running/walking.. OR hoping my electrician H can somehow fix it.

That sucks! What a pain to deal with.
But it's good the belt and speed controls still work. You could probably order a replacement console from the company and have your DH install it, right? With Baby P on the way, you'll definitley want a TM at home. Hoepfully it'll be a DIY type repair.

This is definitely what I'm thinking. I can bring down in the apt while I run.
I'll have to check into a replacement console if DH can't fix it.
Maybe I'm way off base here but in my area when there was a power surge, the electric company accepted receipts and claims for reimbursements and we got it. Is lightening excluded from that?
I've never heard of this.. I can't see how it would be the power companies responsibility. I also don't have a receipt for the treadmill.

I'm not sure about the treadmill, but I'd invest in a whole house surge protector. We don't get many thunderstorms (although we are having one now) but when we remodeled our home our contractor highly recommended it. I don't think they're that expensive either.

I think I'm going to contact my agent.
You are in Florida right? I would NOT call over this. Whatever claim you make would be subject to your deductible and they likely would pay little, to nothing. EDIT: nevermind, I saw that you called already.
I also don't see how the electric company would be responsible and pay for the damages since it was an act of nature and nothing they can control.

I just called my agent, not the actual insurance. The TM is not worth all the hassle; but I was curious if it was something that it would cover; if I wanted to go that route.
