Good lawdy! Why do I do this to myself every time? I rode a lot this winter and even won a Hunter Pace in March with Roma the Dutch Warmblood. Then I had sinus surgery and got into the middle of mountain bike race season. I typically don't ride horses March-June and Sept.-mid Dec. to concentrate on training for bike races.
Poor Roma was bit on her hindquarters by another horse about 8 weeks ago. The bite is still there, and she's getting it scrubbed daily and then some meds put on it. Poor thing. The wound is huge and must have been painful! She got 4 weeks off and has only been ridden once or twice a week by the barn kids since. My trainer asked me to come and give her a "tune up" ride last night. She was good and popped around the 3' course with no problem.
My advice is not to ride for 2 hours if you haven't ridden for 3 months. I'm so sore that I can barely walk today. Tonight's bike ride may be interesting. (We spent 45 min. of the 2 hours walking around a field while I was chatting w/friends; it's wasn't 2 hours of hard work for Roma.)

Good lord! You are a nut! (said in a nice way!)
I haven't ridden since the winter and, while I want to ride, I really am dreading the soreness. Even though I have been exercising some, it is all those different muscles!
That suuuucks. I did this recently just by moving my guy to a new barn where I can ride more consistently. I went from once every 2 or 3 weeks to 5 or 6 days a week. It hurt to sit in chairs at work.
