Ok ladies, time to have a GTG in my neck of the woods. These are the last three waterfire lightings of the year.
Waterfire lights at sunset, so the October lightings start around 6:30ish and the November one starts at 4:30ish. We could meet up for a drink and/or dinner and then walk around the fire area. You can also generally buy beer at a stand on the street and then walk around with it during the lighting, too, and there are always food trucks down there.
ETA: please note that October 12 is the Saturday of Columbus Day weekend. November 9 is a Saturday of Veteran's day weekend (not sure how many of you have off on 11/11).

yes, on Saturdays you can take amtrak and arrive in PVD at either 3:50 pm, 5:14 PM or 7:20 pm.
You would need to leave PVD at 8:29 PM or 10:32 PM.
Tickets on amtrak are $11 each way if you buy the "e" bucket which is the 25% discount rate, which is non-refundable, so if you cancel, you get an amtrak voucher. The regular tickets are $15 each way or $13 something if you have AAA. If you cancel those less than 24 hours ahead of time you get a voucher for future amtrak travel, otherwise they are refundable.
The fare is $10 each way on the commuter rail, but that is not as comfortable and takes longer.
The last MBTA train back to Boston is 10 pm on Saturdays.
If you come into the train station it dumps you right by where waterfire is.
Sounds fun! The November date is the only one I would potentially be able to make. I have a conference to attend that day @hynes but should be able to get out at around 3/4.

It can get crowded so stroller pushing could be tough. I suspect that it will not be as crowded in November as this past weekend. It's not that cold bc you get heat from the fires on the water.
I've never heard of this either. Looks interesting. I could potentially do the Nov. date as well. I would bring DH though since it would be a bit of a drive for us.

Yay! I am so glad that you guys are into it.
Also my BFF from growing up (who lives in Philly) is going to come to town that weekend and join us at our GTG. I did warn her that she would have to hang out with my internet friends as we already had this planned and she is down with it.
I just booked a hotel so DH can make a weekend away of it. :-) We may do the Newport mansions on Sunday. YAY!
Just be sure to check the hours because some of the mansions are closed in the winter. The Breakers will definitely be open - it might even be decorated for Christmas (not sure when they put those decorations up).

I did check, so thanks! I think 5 of them are open. And a woman at work said she had an unused ticket for the Breakers that she said I could have, so woot for that!

Awesome! I will probably do the same. I've been to a few of the mansions before, but still have plenty left to see. My BF, if he comes, would likely enjoy touring them as he's an architecture aficionado.

I saw that! Sneaky, sneaky! So happy for you and dying to hear more!
LOL! It feels soooo weird to use that term, so I've been actively avoiding it on here.
OMG you guys. H and I were talking today about how excited I am to see Elton John in November and H asked if I wanted to get a hotel for the weekend, which was the first lightbulb moment that this show is the night of the Waterfire GTG. I'm out. Depending on when the show gets out, we may wander down that way but I'm guessing it'll be all over by then, right?

Well Waterfire goes until midnight generally....but yeah it might be hard to coordinate and find us.
