Thanks to Pinterest, I'd say people in general are exposed more to fashion blogs whether they know it or not. However, I feel like most of my friends don't know about "blog celebrities" or "it" items like the J Crew neckalce, for example.
One friend last month picked up the Naked palette and said, "Oh wow. I've never seen something like this before." I wanted to respond, "ZOMG?! What? Seriously?!?!" then I thought to myself, "Umm. Just because I read blogs/fashion forums, and the Naked palette seems like the most talked about item, doesn't mean other people have even heard of it."
It's just interesting to compare what seems over-exposed here is sometimes unheard of IRL with my circle of friends (who like fashion/make-up, too)
No one in my circle reads blogs. Review forums? yes. Blogs? no.
They seem to have more interest in how everyone rated a product before they would read a blog to see how the person styled an outfit or what colors they combined on a palette.
And then I have friends who have no idea whatsoever -- I love them but DAMN it's hard to talk to you when you've "never heard of J Crew" because you refuse to go to a mall...

That was me for many many years, I refused to go to the mall and barely shopped for myself. I was too busy raising kids and giving them what they needed and I knew one day I'd have my turn. And here it is and I'm LOVING it with the help of you ladies, my fashion friends.
Should be FFF, fashion friends forever! pha ha ha ha
Ditto Mav. And similar to you vamp, a lot of friends/family have no idea what products/trends are bc there often times there isn't a lot of exposure outside of interweb.
I have about 3 friends who read fashion blogs. And we share with each other if we found a good one. I think I'm the only one who visits a forum. I really love reading and talking about clothes and shopping so its important that I have a few IRL friends who like this too.
The friends I grew up with don't read them as far as I know, but we grew up in a pretty country area so that doesn't really surprise me. They always look to me for advice on fashion, baby stuff, cooking, etc. It's funny because I get most of my advice and ideas from message boards/blogs. Shh... no one tell them I didn't come up with this stuff on my own!
I've convinced a couple of people to start reading some of the blogs I follow, but for the majority they don't follow fashion blogs. Other blogs (photography, mommy) yes but not fashion.
One of my friends works for a clothing company and went to interview at another clothing company and they asked her what fashion blogs she followed. She couldn't name a single one.
I was like "you didn't say Atlantic-Pacific? 9 to 5 chic? Could I have that? cupcakes and cashmere??" and she looked at me like I have two heads.

Yeah, it's not even just on fashion. It includes other things, too.
One friend was telling me, "Oh, I know you like to eat healthy. You have to try a green monster smoothie!" I don't want to smug and be all, "Omg. I tried that 4 years ago!"
I also find it funny when people call a forum or even the comments section on a website a blog. NO! Not the same! Heh.
I have a couple of friends who are a bit more knowledgeable than most of my other friends, but I don't think they follow blogs, and they certainly don't talk about it on message boards haha.
I don't think any of my friends read fashion blogs, but one reads a lot of photography blogs (she also has a photography blog) and another reads a lot of mommy blogs.
My close circle of friends love makeup and beauty products (and they dress well), but they don't read any fashion blogs or go on any forums. I tend to find things online that they don't know about (ie. the jcrew necklace). They tend to shop at the same 2 stores at the mall, which of course there's nothing wrong with doing.
They also don't care about handbags which sometimes bothers me. They make fun of me for spending money on bags. They also know it bothers me that they don't care (it's an ongoing joke that my son won't go to college b/c I spend so much on bags...which is untrue of course).

I don't think they do. If they do I don't know about it and we don't really talk about it.
Honestly if I wasn't at a desk job I probably would't bother either. It's something to fill down time at work, but I'm not really "into" the fashion blogs. I much prefer to chat on here with you guys and read the non-fashion blogs. I find myself slowly deleting fashion blogs off my reader too.
As far as I know, only one of my friends follows a girl who have a YouTube channel. I don't remember her name, but she gives advices about make up and style
