Right now we are feeding Blue Buffalo chicken and rice, but I would love suggestions for a high quality food that doesn't cost as much as Blue Buffalo - I pay $55 for a 30lb bag.

I'm no help we feed Blue Buffalo Duck. I haven't found another high quality food my dog tolerates for less money. I'm interested to see if others have though!
We feed Infinia, the bison and sweet potato, and like it. Our other dog eats Canidae All Life Stages and does well. The Canidae is cheaper than the Infinia, but has multiple proteins in it.
I've heard good things about the Kirkland food but never used it. I can't remember what we just switched too (limited ingredients) but I've always liked Acana, Orijen, in the past.
Natural Balance used to be good and less expensive as well.
I have heard really good things about Natures Domain from Costco. We have been feeding Wellness Simple and are going to attempt to make the switch to that. It is only about $35.00 or so per bag. Much cheaper than the 65.00 a bag for Wellness.
We feed Canidae as well. Our dogs do very well on it. It's not inexpensive but it's about $40ish (I think) rather than $55. Kirkland Brand dog food at Costco is also supposed to be very good quality for less expensive, but I can't vouch for it personally.
Do you use Amazon Subscribe & Save? I get 20% off my food because I have 5 subscriptions. It really makes a difference. Plus it is delivered right to my door.
We use Earthborn Holistic, which is one of the most cost effective four/five star foods I've found. Protein is usually around 26-38% depending on blend, fat content is good, diverse protein selection. You usually have to get it online but it's $40ish for a 28lbs bag and that lasts us two months with a 62lbs dog.
In the interest of full disclosure, they DO have a bit of a problem with complaints about their ash content, their Meadow Feast variety has the lowest ash content. There is some unresearched speculation that high ash content can be taxing on the kidneys but vets are kind of up in the air about what "high" really is. We have to monitor liver/kidneys every six months for other medical issues and haven't had a problem so far, for what that's worth.
They are are a smaller manufacturing facility and have never had a recall. They are also very environmentally friendly. If I couldn't feed this food, I would feed Acana because Champion foods is one of the only other manufactures I feel comfortable with.
We are doing Blue Buffalo right now because Nanook prefers the taste but everyone we know -vets, animal rights people, breeders - say Kirkland is fine. We will feed the huskies Kirkland too, Nookie just goes through kicks where he likes to shake up his kibble so we rotate.
This is most likely no help whatsoever since it is similarly priced, but my dog loves Merrick real beef and barley dry food. It is $50ish for 25lbs- often on sale at Petsmart- but it seems to fill him up better than other foods. He has one bowl at midday and then he's good with just a bit of broccoli at night. With other foods, he sits by his bowls and whines for more, so I think that the price evens out.

This is what we use! Freckles loves it and it's under $30.

We feed Taste of the Wild (currently the boar flavor but we rotate through) and it's been awesome. It's $45 for the big bag at a regular pet store but there's this awesome wholesale place where we can get it for $35. I've heard people say they can buy it for pretty cheap at some tractor supply chain store, too.

Our malamute hybrid does this, too. I have to be sure to buy the different flavor of Kirkland than the last bag because if I buy the same kind back to back, he won't eat it. Then sometimes he'll go on an eating strike entirely (watching his figure?) so I'll buy a small bag of another kind of food just to change it up for him. He's so particular!

I also feed Canidae( chicken and rice) it's approx 40-45.00 for the 30 lb bag at the small local business I go to. He loves it and has been eating it for 5 years. I've seen it for approx 38.00 at a surplus store, it'd cost me the difference in gas to get there though.
I had Penny on Nature's Balance for a while, but honestly it did nothing for her, and we tried several high end brands. We ended up putting her right back on Pedigree Large Breed, and she is so much healthier and happier on it. Go figure.
