I am going to make a large 42x54 basic patchwork quilt with just squares. I'm wondering what size to make the squares. I know my mom has told me before they can't be over a certain size (to maintain the batting in the middle). I will just be quilting it on the edges of the squares. Are 6" squares too big? Thanks for any help! I would call my mom, but it's a suprise!
It depends on the how close together the batting you use needs to be quilted. Some require 2-4" between quilting lines, others you can go up to 10" between lines. It should say right on the packaging.
