Do pencil skirts work on shirt curvy girls? I've tried a few different ones and don't seem to think they work on me but I don't know if I'm just not used to them or if my body type is just all wrong. I'm short and have an hour glass shape. Can I wear these or should I just stick w/ A-line skirts/dresses?
When I find one that really fits, I like them. It's hard to find one that fits in the hips but isn't too tight on the butt, and is still small enough at the waist. I also think they look best if they're about an inch above the knee rather than right at the knee to avoid making my legs look stubby.
Gawd I hope so because I'm 5'5, size 12-14, former dancer & swimmer with legs on the larger size and I'm wearing one today
I'm sure you look great. Maybe it's a confidence thing for me! I am also a former dancer and gymnast and have largish thighs so this makes me feel better!

I tried rolling up my most recent one like one hem length to make it shorter. I do think that helped but I still wasn't sold. I'm going to try again tonight and see. I definitely need to work on making my legs as less stubby as possible!!!
I'm just average height (5'6"ish) but I've got a really long torso so I've got short girl legs (with very thick thighs). I love my pencil skirt, and I think it looks great on me. But I agree with glw that it's hard to find one that really fits well, and the length is important. Mine also hits just above the knee.

It's a knit skirt (halogen-nordstrom). It's super stretchy & comfortable. I work in a restaurant & like to be comfortable & ready to walk a lot so heels are usually out. It's a very very casual environment so I tend to feel a bit out of place in a skirt...

I also have larger thighs (and calves, and ankles . I've gotten compliments from my employees today on my skirt & that I should wear them more often so perhaps it's all in my head....
Pencil skirts absolutely work on curvy girls. You just have to be cool with accentuating your curves.
If you're short, you may need to have it hemmed/altered for best fit. If it's too long, it will look frumpy, and it won't go taper in enough at the hemline.
I think the slight tapering at the hem/knee is important for making it flattering. If it just hangs from your hips, it'll look wider all the way down, rather than curvy.
I'm curvy and plus size, and I wear them. This is one I just bought, which I think I'm going to have shortened about one inch to hit just below the knee.
Here are some curvy girls rocking the pencil skirt.

I may be the lone voice of opposition, but I am not a fan of them. I am curvy and when I wear one, I feel unattractive. Plus, they are tough to walk in!
I'm curvy and thick in the thighs and I LOVE pencil skirts. I feel so sexy, like I'm channeling some 1960's sex kitten. Or a sexy librarian. I usually wear them with cardigans and always have glasses on, so I guess more of a librarian.
I wouldn't rule them out, but find one that you are comfortable in. If you aren't comfortable, you won't be happy or confident.
If you always put limits on everything you do, physical or anything else, it will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them. - Bruce Lee
You have to try to find one that fits your body type. I am curvy and I love them! I can't wear just any pencil skirt. I have to find one that fits my body type. I really like NY & Company pencil skirt on me.
