I was walking out of the grocery store and saw a car with just the windows cracked and a dog inside of it. It's 95 out today.
I asked the store if they could page the owner and they refused. I then called the non-emergency number for the police and they told me they would get to it when they had time. Is there something else I should have done, short of breaking a window?
I carry fliers in my car to put on the windshield. Its this one- hyphenbird.hubpages.com/hub/Hot-Dogs-In-Cars-Are-Not-Cool It has info on the back about what temperatures outside = temps inside the car. I don't know that it does any good, but I'm unwilling to break someone's window, and unwilling to confront someone and risk a physical altercation.
This probably makes me a bad person.
Oh, I like this idea. I was tempted to hang out and tell them it wasn't safe, but people are nuts.
Call animal control directly??? Go through the store aisle by aisle announcing "A horrible pet owner has left their dog outside in a hot car, (car color, type, license plate #). If this is your dog, shame on you and go take him home where it's cool and he has water."
if someone asks me to page someone at work, I have to tell them no, and then if they push, I have to ask the manager, who then usually tells them no. it's kind of a pain in the ass.

I totally get what your saying, but a life or death situation would seem to warrant use. It would suck to be caught in the middle as the employee just following protocol.
