Whoa. 30 minute tantrum? There's no way I wouldn't have stayed for that. "Friend, this is not okay. We NEED to leave." That would have been so embarrassing. I'm sorry OP.

We haven't gotten there yet but I've seen this happen multiple times.
My favorite was when the kid was tantruming for about 30 minutes and the mom kept saying "now Timmy, if you don't stop, we are going to leeeeeaaaave." (Screaming continues). When they got up and headed to the door after 30 minutes everyone in the restaurant clapped.
There was also the target kid who was grabbing toys and clothes and throwing them in the middle of the aisle. Same thing "now Suzie, if you don't stop, we're going to leeeeeaaave!"
Nope, you're absolutely right to suggest she do something or leave. She's rude. I didn't put up with that with the first generation and I sure as heck don't with this one either. You don't annoy the people around you. The end.
Your friend rude and inconsiderate to all the other people there. I cannot believe she allowed it to continue more than a minute or 2. I am also amazed that the other people in the restaurant didn't ask the manager to handle it ( more than just saying maybe it wasn't their day to dine out. If it were my friend I would have said something and if she did nothing, I would have left. There is no excuse for that behavior from the child OR the mom!!!
I leave restaurants with DS all.the.time. The other day he was being Senor Cranky Crab in the restaurant and I brought him out to the lobby, and put him in time out ( he also hit me in the restaurant.) I told him that he could go back in and eat food, but he had to say Sorry to the restaurant for screaming and hitting in it. He walked right up to the hostess, said " Sowweeeyyy" and went back to his chair, ate his food and was happy as a clam ( I also broke out the Super Why on the iPhone about 10 minutes later. Mother of the Year. )
