My doctor told me to take it to help me sleep better. While reading about it, it is also supposed to help depression and anxiety. If anyone has taken it, what was your experience with it? ETA: Sorry if this doesn't make sense, I already took it and I get drowsy from medication fairly easily. Hopefully I will actually be able to stay asleep instead of waking up several times.

Yes, I've taken it. I was having depression and anxiety and trouble sleeping. She had me slowly up the dose (I don't remember what the max was) and by the time I was 3/4 to what she wanted, I peed the bed, lol. It knocked me freaking unconscious at night. I switched to ambien and xanax, and that worked much better. Other than drowsiness, I had no issues.
Myself, my mom, and my dog have all taken it. All 3 of us started on 50mg. My mom and I took it for sleep...worked really well, better for her than for me. She had headaches as a side effect, I very rapidly started having sexual issues with it but I was only on it very short term to get my sleep back on track so that was fine. It didnt help me fall asleep any faster but I slept better once I was out. My mom fell asleep much faster and slept like the dead. My dog was on it as needed for separation anxiety. It made him pretty chill but SSRIs seem like they might be a trigger for his neurological issues so we discontinued use. All in all, I like having it on hand and will definitely take it again next time I have a bad insominia phase. It is an SSRI so be sure to stay aware of all those related side effects.
I took it for a while maybe 4-5 years ago, prescribed by my PCP after I talked about my inability to sleep due to anxiety. It put me straight to sleep, which was okay, I guess. But I was in a daze mostly on it. I don't think it helped my anxiety at all. I stopped it pretty much cold turkey (don't do that).
A psychiatrist I saw later told me it wasn't really meant to treat anxiety, but was a very early precursor to Prozac and was meant as a sleeping aid.
Anyway, I wasn't happy on it and do much better now med-free.
ETA: I'm afraid my use of "better now med-free" sounds... smug? I don't know. Don't mean it that way. My experience with trazadone really turned me off meds. Plus my mom's general blank-ness from her bi-polar meds.
Blah, rambling. Issues with psychotropic meds, party of one, right here.

I take it and I love it. Seriously, I would marry it.
I have depression and my psychiatrist prescribed it for sleep. She explained that it doesn't have anti depressant properties at the dosage you take it for sleep. It only has anti depressant properties if you take enough of it to put you out for a week.
That being said, if you take another med that has an effect on Seratonin, you should chat with your doctor about Seratonin Syndrome.

I have taken it, but even at the max dose it didn't do much for me. Apparently I need elephant tranquilzers to cure my insomnia issues. I didn't have any ill side effects.

I took it. I took a low dose for insomnia. It worked alright. I never went back to adjust my dosage. Sometimes I would take 2 and it still didn't work very well. (I do not recommend that btw)

Thanks everyone. greencrayon , I'll be sure to use the bathroom before I go to bed so that I don't pee the bed. lol. They started me on 50mg. So, I took it last night and I fell asleep pretty quickly. I didn't wake up at all during the night which I usually do several times. Also, I just slept for about 11 hours.
I've taken it since I was 18. It helped me tremendously. No side effects. I take 50 mg but if I know I'll be in a different bed or am really stressed, I take 100mg.

I've been on it for a year and a half. It's part of my ADP cocktail (initially lexapro + traz, now wellbutrin + traz). Works really well and I'm not groggy like I am if I take a benadryl. It doesn't really help my anxiety though, so when I'm really anxious I have to either take two 50mg to sleep or take 50 and add .25 kolonopin. I was initially prescribed kolonopin, but that shit knocks me OUT and I have a 3 year old, so that didn't work for me. The Traz puts me to sleep pretty quickly, but I can also take it earlier in the evening and stay awake for a bit. And I have no issues waking up to pee.
