I don't know if this is a thing in the US, but around here a lot of new developments use names for the streets. Like my old boss used to live on Tom Edwards Drive. It was named after someone involved in building the development she lived in.
Anyway, our new house is on a street named after a person. We really didn't care because we love the house. BUT I was talking to the lady at the sales office and I mentioned that I wish we had a regular street name instead of a person's name because I think it is silly.
...She told me the names they chose are after veterans.
I feel like such a jerk. I have multiple family members who are serving or have served in the Canadian military. And H is American and comes from a military family--like multiple people in every generation either have or are still serving.
Annnnd that will teach me to think before I speak.

It's not like you're saying you hate Canada because you don't like your street name. I wouldn't want to live on a person-named street either.
In Atlanta, there are 71 streets with "Peachtree" in the name. And every street has to have a direction in it. For instance, I live on Liberty Parkway NW. There is no SW or NE. But in the city of Atlanta, everything needs a modifier.
I think most places have quirky street names. I wouldn't feel bad if I were you. It wasn't malicious.

Here streets have modifiers based on where they are in relation to the city center, or county for unincorporated areas. Bainbridge Island wasn't incorporated until the mid-90s so 80% of the roads on the island have NE in the name, since the entire island is in the NE part of Kitsap county. But the 20% of older streets near downtown have directions relative to the downtown area since it used to be incorporated as its own city. You could be driving north on X Street NE which then changes to X Street S as you approach downtown...

I wouldn't feel bad. How were you supposed to know? In our area streets named after veterans or fallen police/fire fighters are usually named with " memorial way" so you know. In the city I grew up in, it was common for streets to be named after the family that owned the land in the area. Don't feel bad !

She just gave me a kind of judgy look and it was awkward. Of course when I professed how awesome it was to be named after a veteran she seemed to not be buying it.
Bushwood and Porky Oliver are killing me. I can't imagine having to tell people those street names.
