Late because I can't keep a fucking thought in my brain for more than 30 seconds most of the time, BUT when I send invites I want people to RSVP immediately. I sent C's party invites out last week and haven't heard from anyone yet and am getting antsy as well.
Honestly- depends on the event! For something big like a wedding, or a milestone b-day for a good friend, I'll usually RSVP right away. If it's for something that I may not be super excited about attending but will if nothing else comes up - I'll wait until closer to the RSVP date. But I DO RSVP before the deadline (if one is given).

If I know my answer immediately because otherwise I tend to forget.
This reminds me I was invited to a wedding in Ireland and I searched the invite high and low and could not find a way to RSVP. I asked DH who opened it if he threw away the inner envelope or anything and he swears he didn't. So I didn't do anything. A few weeks ago another friend brought it up and made a joke about the "Irish RSVP" I have no idea if he was serious and I fucked up. So if you are Irish my answer is I don't RSVP at all.

If it's an evite - immediately. If I need to call or mail something back then usually within a couple days, as soon as I have time to make a phone call or get to a mailbox.
