Downton Abbey watchers - A question

I am re-watching season two right now, so this is old, and probably already discussed but I can't find anything about it. Do you think the burned soldier Patrick is the real Patrick?

No, I realize it's only TV so there's only so much detail in general, but his knowledge of the Granthams and Downton Abbey seemed superficial.

i've decided he was in the service with the real patrick, picked up just enough information to try to fake it, and then figured he'd try to make good on a bad situation (i.e., being burned head to toe).

No. I agree with what cville said. He knew the real Patrick at some point, and used the information to try to trick the family. Or, in a more extreme case, due to his battle injuries he may have actually thought that he WAS the real Patrick and incorporate his buddy's stories into his own false memories.

I think he knew Patrick somehow and took an ooportunity that presented itself.

I am/was kind of there too. I think it was because he was nice to Edith, and I am definitely Team Edith.

ITV starts airing it on 9/22. Tunnelbear and other places on the internet become my bestest friends. I cannot wait until January, and the PBS edits suck anyway.
