T woke up crying at 5am. MH picked him up and noticed labored breathing/wheezing. A call to the nurse line told us to go to the ER. We spent 5 hours there, getting nebulizer treatment and monitoring of oxygen levels. His oxygen levels were lower than they like to see, so he was admitted to the children's hospital.
The nebulizer treatment did clear-up his lungs, but they want to check his oxygen levels/breathing throughout the day. When looking at his chest, you can tell he is working hard to pull in air; there is a big retraction. He has been in great spirits and I really don't think we need to be here, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. He finally laid down for a much needed nap.
*Update* We are home (finally). Thank you all SO MUCH for the well wishes. The docs said he likely (95%) has a virus, but it's not RSV or viral pneumonia. We had to use saline drops in his nose before suctioning it out (he HATED it -- I felt so bad because I had to pin him down to do it). We're using a humidifier in his room and have to check his breathing every 2 hours. I'm feeling good about everything. Here's hoping he'll be doing better for my brother's wedding this Saturday (P.S. MH, Theo and I are all in the wedding -- lordy).
Hope he feels better soon, breathing stuff is scary. Does he use an inhaler normally or did this just come out of nowhere? So scary. L has 2 inhalers one is more preventative and the other I use when her cough gets real bad.
Thanks everyone. He has had a runny nose/cough for about a week, but the cough got bad yesterday evening. He has never had breathing issues before, so we didn't really know what to do.

Last winter, we dealt with this with Blake twice. The first time was in Nov and he got pneumonia. He also wheezes when he got sick, and he was admitted to the hospital because his oxygen was low (low 90s, high 80s). We were there for 3 days before we finally got released. They wanted to have him keep his oxygen levels up without the oxygen for 8-12hrs I think. It's harder at night too because that's when they normally have decreased oxygen levels.
He got RSV at the end of Dec, and we were admitted again for the oxygen. Another 3 days in the hospital before we got out. It's frusterating because he wasn't on an IV or anything but the oxygen. Breathing treatments every 4 hrs too, but we have a nebulizer at home so we could've used that.
If they think this will be a recurring problem, I would go ahead and get the neb. We have pulmicort as a preventative medicine, and albuterol when he wheezes. They said that he can't officially be diagnosed with asthma until like 3yrs, but a lot of kids that wheeze when they're younger end up with it. Knock on wood, but we've been off the nebulizer since July except for a few random times he needed the albuterol.
Anyways, that's my experience with it. I hope he gets well soon, and keeps that oxygen up so you go home. Hoping this is a one time deal for you!!!

Thank you for sharing and welcome! I hope you post more.
Glad your home. Brady was 13 months when he had a bad wheezing spell and when the doctor did the deep suction he puked on the cute observing paramedic in training.
