Have yall noticed the...sophistication quotient going down on Pinterest? A while ago, I noticed the pins getting seriously questionable (My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding-esque attire, etc), so I ruthlessly edited the people I follow and now my feed is back to my picture perfect utopia, but I have seen some traaaashy comments lately on other people's pins.
In response to a corn dip: "THAT LOOKS LIKE VOMIT. GROSS!"
In response to Kim K makeup: "BOYCOTT GARBAGE LIKE HER AND HER FAMILY, YUCK"
From different commenters, btw.
Seriously? If anyone commented like that on one of my pins, I'd probably give them a snarky set down quicker than you can blink.
The disparity between Pinterest and all of its beautiful harmonious images and those nasty comments is really surprising to me. I can't imagine someone who calls another human "garbage" would be interested in pretty pics, ya know? Have you noticed it?
I love pinterest, but I do wish we could have a little more control over who sees and can comment on our pins.
One thing I've noticed is some pins making the rounds again- the same stuff that all my friends pinned 6 months ago getting pinned again. My feed needs some fresh air I think. I need to start following people who are bringing new things into pinterest rather than recycling the same stuff

I hardly look at the pinners I follow. I'm also VERY selective and I only follow people I know (because I sometimes use it to show other people cool things I found with them in mind). I've noticed actual debates on Pinterest. Like the really popular thing to do now with carseats is to redo the cover that comes on them and I saw a nice long thread about how dangerous it was. I mean, it's probably true (99% likely) but c'mon, don't need to have knock-down-drag-out fights about it!
I must be using it wrong. I have a board for each room in the house and I put things on there to see if they go. Sometimes people re-pin me, but I have no followers and I don't follow anyone. If someone made a critical comment on something I pinned, I'd be pretty annoyed.
I have seen that but it's mostly on the general everything board not pinners I actually follow or people that comment on my pins. I try to be very selective on who I follow and what boards I follow. I almost never follow all of someone's boards just individual ones. That way when they decide to add an odd board I would not normally follow it doesn't fill my home page with pins I don't care about.
I haven't seen any rude comments, but I usually only look at the people I follow, not the everything board. And I don't follow all that many people.
I do have one pin that keeps getting comments, they're not rude or anything, just annoying. It's a pin with a poem about dogs, and random people keep leaving comments like "I love my dog" or "I miss my dog" or "love this". That's nice, but why do I need to know that? If you like the pin, then just repin or or click the like button. The comment isn't necessary. Especially if I don't know you.
I've yet to see comments like those, but some have been kind of snippy. I only follow people that I know, so that might limit some of the stuff that I see. I wish I had more control over who viewed my pins, though.
Yeah, I've noticed this. I don't understand why total strangers feel the need to comment on my pins, either. I've only gotten one rude comment, but it always confuses me when someone who's not even my follower randomly comments on one of my pins.
When close friends poke fun at some of the stuff I pin that's on the odder end of the spectrum, I'm fine with that. It's funny, I get it, it's in fun.
But when I see really rude comments, sometimes it is a little shocking. Joy Cho used to get tons of mean stuff, about how stuff was ugly, about how she must spend a fortune on clothes (so what if she does? And I don't know about you, but I buy less than 1% of what I pin so...). She eventually had to put a disclaimer about keeping comments nice and constructive. It sucks.
