In case you didn't hear my rant on FB or in the Thursday Randoms thread, today is my anniversary. DH sent me flowers and some balloons, since he's in Iowa until tomorrow. Around 2:00, the floral delivery person called me, through the neighborhood call box, and told me she had a delivery. I told her that I wasn't home, but that she should leave the flowers on my front deck. I got home, they weren't there, and it took me over six hours to find out what happened to them. It turns out that they were left in our guardhouse, but nobody told me. Florist told the guard that she left me a note on my door and a voicemail. That's all BS.
So the guard called me at 8-ish and told me they were there. Unfortunately, Andrew was fast asleep and I couldn't go get them. The guard offered to bring them to me on her 9:00 rounds. She's awesome, I just got them, and they are beautiful and worth the wait. And now for the WWYD-
It's about .25 miles to the guardhouse from my house. DH asked me why I didn't just go and get them. I frequently go to the dog park after A goes to bed, but it's less than 100' from my house. I said that I wasn't comfortable walking further away from the house than the baby monitor will reach. He said he would have set the alarm and walked to the guardhouse to get the flowers....nothing would happen in five minutes.
If the guard didn't offer to bring them down, I probably would have given the monitor to a neighbor (townhouses, the monitor works through the walls for our immediate neighbors) while I walked down. Or I would have offered $5 to one of the joggers running though the neighborhood this time of night.
Would you have just walked down and gotten them? Am I over-thinking this?
I feel like a quarter mile is actually pretty far. For me that's like walking down to the corner store, and I wouldn't feel at all comfortable doing that. But I'd have no problem leaving the monitor with someone else while I ran a quick errand like that.
I won't go farther than the monitor goes. I don't like the idea of a locked up house and me out of sight, if something happened it would be hard for somebody to get in.

.25 miles each way is a good 10 min walk. I wouldn't feel comfortable leaving A alone in the house for that long. I would have been ok leaving the monitor with the neighbor, but I probably would have asked a jogging neighbor too.

I walk my dog right outside my building door when my H travels but I'm always in sight of the building and in ear shot of the monitor (it works as far as my stoop and I turn it all the way up)
I would have just gone. But, I'm guessi I am the weird one here.
If the monitor reached I would have too. I feel that you and I are pretty alike when it comes to these situations which makes me feel not like a craptastic mom. Thanks for that!

I leave the house but just in my yard and not that far.
A coworker and his wide were on vacation and they set the monitor up to face time and left the room went down six flights of stairs and to the bar. I would never! And he was talking about it. I would be too paranoid of fire or staff opening he door

Fire is my worst fear, especially when flights of stairs are involved. I never even thought of staff having access at a hotel.
I'm much more worried about a fire than a random person trying to kidnap my kid while I'm gone.
Depends on the area, my parents neighborhood in the suburbs i would but probably not mine. There are too many random people around here. I don't even have a monitor. No way would I ever leave her in a hotel room, too many unknowns. I doubt my house would spontaneously burst into flames but a hotel could easily start on fire.

I wouldn't do it. Even if a monitor could reach a quarter mile, if something happened inside the house while I was a quarter mile away, there wouldn't be any way to get there in time to prevent pretty much anything dangerous.
I was rethinking this. For .25 I would probably give the monitor to a neighbor. Anything shorter I'd just go. Partly because you are in a gated community.

I'll try and post a picture in a bit. My app is being annoying and doesn't want to upload pictures.
But a quick DH AW - He got me the flowers, a "Happy Anniversary" balloon, and a "Happy Birthday" balloon. Yesterday was Andrew's 17-month birthday. No, we don't actually celebrate those dates, but we do acknowledge them. Andrew LOVES mylar balloons, so DH ordered one for him to celebrate his "birthday." I think it's kind of adorable.

I'm with the others, I wouldn't have gone. I have no problem mowing the lawn after Owen goes to bed, but I don't leave our property if no one else is home.

Roses and lilies. Small and sweet. I'm not a huge fan of flowers. They're overpriced and they die, but I'm not going to keep DH from sending them. So, he tends to pick small arrangements that come in cute vases or have some other non-perishable item.
