Anyone heard of domperidone for increasing milk supply? I guess it makes you produce more prolactin?
My OB prescribed me some and said it should help, but it had to be made at a compounding pharmacy and isn't covered under insurance. I have to submit it to them and see if they will cover it. I hope they do cause it was 90 dollars for a month supply! I definitely cannot afford that. I couldn't afford this one prescription but my Mom offered, so we figured it was worth a shot and to see if my insurance will reimburse us.
I hope it works and I hope my insurance will cover it! All of the other things have not helped enough with my supply. I am maybe giving them 1/3 of what they need. :/
I have heard of it though I never personally took it. I think quite a few from here have though. One of Colin's anti-seizure medicines is compounded, $90/month, and not covered either. I wonder why?? It bugs me so I can completely understand. I really hope this helps you! If you can get your supply where you need it and insurance won't cover it, would the $90/month be cheaper than formula? Hang in there! You're doing great and I love the picture of E and the girls in the stroller. Squeeeee!
Also, I think I vaguely remember a few April moms ordering online because they couldn't get it in their state. I feel like they spent less than $90 so if insurance won't be able to cover it, you still might be able to get it cheaper? Hopefully someone can lead you in the right direction.
You can't even get that in pharmacies here (my mom might have to be on it, its for stomach issues), and my mom would have to travel to the university of michigan to even get it. So I know theres a big chance insurance wont cover that drug

I was on domperidone for over a year. It worked wonders for me. Luckily its readily available in Canada. Good luck I hope it helps you!
I hope your insurance covers it. It did for me and X refused formula so I went ahead and used it. Would it be cheaper than formula? I'm sorry you are going through this, you're doing a great job mama!
My doctor wouldn't prescribe it to me. She gave me reglan instead. It did start to help, although I had some bad side effects and had to go off it. Not everyone has those side effects, though, and my insurance paid for it. Might be worth a try.
Also, fenugreek, oatmeal, mothers' milk tea and lactation cookies might help.

Yes this too. Oatmeal, lactation cookie, fenugreek, blessed thistle, more milk plus, ect. I'd say try pumping to help increase but with a toddler and twins I'm sure that's not possible. And hey, no harm in formula! We'll support you no matter what.

If it helps, I was not able to make enough for my twins. They got 1-2 bottles of formula from the beginning. Whatever happens know that you are doing the best you can and it will all work out whatever they are fed.
I did notice a slight increase from more milk plus special blend:

I was on Reglan for nausea during chemo and had some pretty side affects from it but it was the only thing that helped. When I was pregnant in Dylan, I went to Ireland during 1st tri and I had such terrible sickness that I had to go to the hospital because I couldn't even keep water down. They prescribed Metaclopromide, which I had no idea was Reglan. I started taking it and felt those same side affects...it was so strange. I'm aware that they prescribe the same drugs for many different things but it is so strange to me to think of a drug I took while on chemo as something to help lactating women.
What were your side affect? Mine were crazy vision issues and shaky feeling.
Extreme disorientation, exhaustion. It was almost like I had post-partum depression. I couldn't focus on anything, either mentally or physically. They came on really quickly, too. I started taking it Friday and felt horrible by Saturday morning. Fortunately, my ILs were visiting, so they were able to help take care of the kids, and it was actually my MIL who wondered if it was PPD. Then we looked at the timeline and realized it was probably the reglan.
I was really sad, too, because it seemed to be helping.
However, jnoellee don't let that dissuade you from trying it if your doctor thinks it'll work. Lots of ladies on the BFing board took it with no trouble.

I was put on Reglan for a bit before zofran during first tri with P, and i actually started producing (and leaking) milk while on it.I didn't have any crazy side effects...it just wasn't helping with the nausea/throwing up too much (they thought it might help since it moves the food through the digestive track faster and I had lost 10 lbs by 9 weeks).

I also agree with oatmeal (didn't use the others, so I have no experience) and that formula is fine if you have to supplement or switch to formula. It is awesome we have that option for those that can't or don't want to bf!

@therealmc - Were you ever on zofran during chemo? I found it interesting when I was told it was often used for chemo patients. I didn't know about Reglan being used for chemo patients, but I know my sister used it for stomach/digestive issues for awhile.
I took domperidone for awhile and it definitely helped. It used to be FDA approved, but they dropped their approval when it caused a reaction in a very specific set of people (I think it was like elderly cancer patients with heart conditions, but I may be wrong) which made insurance no longer cover it.
The $50 every two weeks definitely added up, but I was able to come off of it after 8 weeks or so. My LC said that it was the safest option with practically no side effects for people like me.
I have a friend in my march group who ordered it offline for really cheap. I will see if I can find out where she ordered it from if you are interested.
I haven't taken it but I know many people who have, as skies said its readily available here in Canada. I have a few friends that were only able to BF because of it.
Ive been on it for about 6 months now with no side effects. I buy it on in house pharmacy . biz (no spaces) 500 pills for $56. I take 5 to 9 pills a day. I don't respond that great to the pump and my ds is mpsi, so this is way cheaper than the formula he would need.
I'm so glad you were able to get a Rx. I tried, but my midwife couldn't prescribe it, and the LC/MD she referred me to wanted almost $700 for an appt to prescribe it. I've heard it works wonders. A friend who'd had a reduction went from making droplets to 2-3 ounces per pump with it.
I think my breasts are like yours, and I tried every one of the suggestions above with little to no success More Milk Plus tincture gave me the tiniest boost for a couple of months, like 1 ounce total more a day, but it quickly became ineffective.

I took it and bought it online from the same sure the poster above me did. No side effects, but it didn't work for me. I also have problems and don't produce hardly ANYTHING, if at all, so I wasn't just trying to boost my supply.
Yeah my ob said it was available in Canada but that we have restrictions on it so thats why I had to get it through this dude. He said blue shield is usually good about reimbursing but that they will probably try to say they cant because it's restricted.
I hope I can find it online easily if this works! I didn't know you could just buy these things online! Is it legit that way? I'd be scared they are filled with something else, lol.
Rose is showing symptoms of mspi and I would much rather be able to bf and fix my diet than deal with expensive formula. We switched hers to similac sensitive but I can't tell if that's done the trick or not.
