I've never lived in a subdivision before and with looking at this new house I'm overwhelmed by all of the covenants I just found online for this one. It has a 2 pet limit per house. I have 3 cats right now. Is this something that someone can REALLY enforce?! I mean, I guess I don't technically have to let anyone in my house so they would have no way of knowing I suppose, they're inside only cats. It just terrifies me that we would move in and someone would "tattle" on us. What would/could they do?

Our town has a pet limit ordinance. I'm not sure of the exact number allowed (I live outside city limits), but I think it would be pretty difficult to enforce.
I don't think they could ever enforce an inside cat limit. If they were outside or dogs it would be easier but I personally wouldn't worry about them finding out you have 3 and not 2.

Yeah, my cats pretty much hide whenever the door opens and they hear someone new anyway. So they'd probably have a tough time even finding them to enforce it lol.

Technically, you could easily hide your number of cats, but for the sake of legality, I'd disclose the number of cats you have and ask for them to be grandfathered in.
Our city has a limit of 3 dogs and 3 cats. This worked to my advantage before Macy was born when DH constantly wanted to adopt new dogs. Idk how they would know though unless someone complained. I do see Animal Control driving around a lot.
I've never heard of houses that you BUY having a pet limit! Apartments and other rentals, of course, but actual houses that you own? What?
It's home owner's associations. Personally, I'd never buy a house that had an HOA, because I don't like being told what I can and can't do with the house I own. HOA's can actually foreclose on your home if you don't pay your dues.

I don't know about cats, but in Baltimore City, you can't own more than 3 dogs without a license. A breeder's license or something. It doesn't matter if you own.

I always thought HOA focused more of the outside of your home: making sure you grass gets cut, telling you what fences you can have, I you can have a shed in your backyard, how many cars you can park out front, etc. But it blows my mind to know they can also control the I sides of your home and family.

Yeah, it sucks. different HOAs have different levels of involvement. Unfortunately, around here it's hard to find many houses NOT in HOAs, at least houses that are a little larger (not gigantic by any means, just 4br) like we are wanting. It seems all of the older neighborhoods are too small for our crew or are really dated and need lots of work. I would definitely prefer not to be in one, but you gotta do what you gotta do. We just don't have many older neighborhoods around here.
