I bet you one million dollars you'll get a follow up message to the group - "Since so many people have asked, yes we are registered, here is the link if you feel moved to give a gift. We love each and every one of you!!!!"

Yep. One of my friends did this too. Tacky IMO. I get wanting a small wedding, but you don't have to explain yourself. Just send an announcement later with a note if you feel the person would be hurt by not being invited.

I keep thinking about this post. My good friend got engaged this summer and shared the news with me in person, but worked it into the conversation that they were going to have a very small wedding. Totally cool! I still told her that I wanted to do something to celebrate the occasion and I was still planning to get her a gift. At no time was a weird "Hey, you're not invited" email or FB post sent out. It's just not that damn hard to politely tell folks that a)you're getting married and b) you're keeping it small.

How odd. I mean, we had a tiny wedding, but the people that weren't invited, just... didn't get an invitation. We made it known amongst family that it would be small, and I guess word spread. Some people got us gifts anyhow, which was lovely and appreciated, and I had a work shower, but that was it. Oh, and we didn't do announcements, either.
This sounds like they perhaps are anticipating issues with some people being P.O.'ed about not getting an invite. Or it's gift-grabby. But it seems like they might be coming from a good place.

I definitely got a card similar to this in the mail telling us we weren't invited to wedding but letting us know where they were registered. I.just.about.fucking.died.
