You guys have motivated me to get up before work to workout, which does help because it's just so hot in the evenings (unless I wait until 8pm).
So I've been getting up at 5:30am Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday (when I run with my group), and being pretty diligent about it. But I'm also finding myself waking up at about that time the other days of the week, even when i want to sleep. Part of the problem in the dogs are getting used to my schedule, and think it's play time
Do you find that it's easier to just get up at your early workout time daily for consistency? Are you able to get up, or is it a struggle? Can you sleep in on the other days?

I'm not the best person to ask, but it's always a struggle for me. Honestly if it wasn't for my running partner, I wouldn't do it. I'm NOT a morning person. I sleep in on the other days (well sleeping in is really only like another half hour).
Once it becomes habit to wake up and exercise, I tell myself I might as well get up that early and be productive even if I'm not running. Rarely happens. I just lie there in bed, awake, mentally kicking myself for the time I'm wasting but being otherwise too cozy to care.
i don't have a choice about getting up early...we get up at 415 to get into work at 530, i run with my running partner around 6 AM. It's just a habit...I can sleep in as long as I want on my days off and weekends though. Mainly because I'm so tired from my schedule during the week. Waking up at 415 will never be easy for me and I struggle with it
Our dog is familiar with the schedule, since it's always been our work schedule, so she knows around 445 she is going in her crate...on days we sleep in, she gets let out in the AM like normal (FI usually does this) and then she stays on her pillow, she isn't allowed in our room and we close our door now.

I'm up at 4 for morning workouts, but on non-workout days I can still only manage to sleep until 5:30-6:00 at the latest. I've always been an early riser and very much a morning person though.

I've been struggling with this recently. About a month ago, I started getting up an hour earlier three times a week to run before it got too hot, and it's starting to get really tiring. I think the problem is that while I do go to bed earlier the nights before I wake up earlier, I don't always fall asleep earlier, since I'm used to staying up for another hour.
So I think I'm going to try going to bed and waking up an hour earlier every day, even on days when I don't run, just to get used to the schedule. Hopefully I can convince myself to get out of bed and be productive on the non-run mornings.
The schedule consistency is the main reason I don't do morning runs. I've tried it, but like others, I can't seem to get to sleep earlier the nights before a morning run and working with a varying sleep schedule doesn't work well for me. The nights that I have class until 10pm, I don't get home until 10:30ih and it's difficult to wind down and actually get in bed by midnight. I wish I were one of those super humans who could function on only 5 hours of sleep every night, but I really need 7. Hopefully when I finish my graduate program in May, I can re. Arrange my workout schedule.

I meet friends at 6:15 to walk four laps of our neighborhood. After doing that for a while, I've found myself waking up at 5:30/5:40 pretty consistently even on weekends. During the week I use that extra time to empty the dishwasher, do some straightening up, and just enjoy the quiet. Sometimes I even head out early and run two or three laps on my own before meeting the group. At first I didn't think I'd like it but the truth is that on days we aren't walking and I stay in bed I feel pretty draggy and unproductive all morning!
On weekends I sometimes wake up sometimes not, but when I do so far I've been lucky enough to be able to fall back asleep until 7 or so when my kids get up.

I have a gym partner - which makes a huge difference because I have to get up at 4:45 to get there by 5. This is not fun, but she's counting on me. I can feel your pain though with the dogs - if it affected them negatively and their sleep schedule I'd have a hard time being able to fluctuate the time. I actually end up spending more quality time with them now that I'm up early. One dog likes to sleep in and one will play ball all day and night if I let him. I know my big thing is getting to bed earlier.
