A few weeks ago, I started noticing that the arches of my feet would cramp uncomfortably when lifting anything more than 5-10 reps. I thought maybe switching to a show with more support would help, so I started wearing old running shoes instead of my NB Minimus shoes.
This morning, the WOD was 1 minute of sumo deadlift high pulls, 1 minute of jumping lunges, 1 minute of pull-ups, 1 minute of KB snatches, 1 minute rest (repeat X3). By the time I was done with the second round, my arch was cramped so bad that it was radiating up my leg to my hamstring and I quit.
So, is this something I can just chalk up to pregnancy or is there something I can do to prevent this? I've had a fair bit of sciatic pain the last few weeks, too.
(In happier news, I clean and jerked 92# this morning! Could have probably gone heavier if the belly wasn't in the way.)

I would chalk it up to pregnancy. You are carrying more weight with a different center of gravity and that is probably really taxing the muscles and tendons in your feet when you add weightlifting.
You've been such a beast so far throughout the pregnancy! Don't beat yourself up about it.
Looks like we have Fight Gone Bad for a WOD today as well and I'm dreading the SDHP's after all the DL's and squats we've done this week.

Yeah, plus I imagine the added weight I'm carrying doesn't help. It sucks because some WODs are just fine, and others are really frustrating.
Good luck today! I love FGB style WODs. The jumping lunges were killer today.

Your foot has several strong ligaments and tendons that support the arch and help to maintain your normal foot structure. The spring ligament and the posterior tibial tendon are two very important arch supporting structures that can be damaged during pregnancy.
Certain pregnancy-related hormones are increased throughout your body during pregnancy. Relaxin is one of the hormones that your body produces in order to help with vaginal birth. In order to deliver a baby, it is necessary to relax the ligaments that stabilize and hold the pelvic bones together. This allows for a slight separation of the hip bones in order to allow the fetus to move through during birth.
Unfortunately, this hormone also affects other structures made of collagen, including the tendons and ligaments in the feet. This can lead to fallen arches. It is not just the ligamentous laxity that leads to fallen arches. It is really the combination of weakening of these structures combined with the normal increase in weight associated with pregnancy.
The article I foudn this in was pretty unscientific, but you get the drift. Your body doesn't realize the hormone it's producing in preparation for birth isn't needed in your feet.

Awesome workouts you're still doing! You did the right switching to your old shoes. Maybe invest in some superfeet insoles or an even more supportive shoe for the rest of your preganancy. Sounds like it's a foot issue radiating up.
I can sympathize. My arches completely collapsed when I was pregnant, and I went from being a neutral runner with decent form to a moderate pronator with a crazy heel whip. Had to completely start over with my running shoe collection.
Things people never tell you about being pregnant.........
it just makes you feel lighter. I would go for a run and take it off and BAM, all of a sudden my belly felt real heavy. Of course that heavy feeling becomes normal after a bit - I never got to the point where I felt super uncomfortable or anything - but why not be lighter?
It will probably help with any looming bladder issues too.
ah, and I bet you though they were for back issues because (non-pregnant) people wear something very similar for back support. My CEO wore something practically identical at the time except his was blue, lol.
