So I am waiting for my friend to pick me up and I am getting my face lasered. I have had it done before, but this time I am getting 2 different ones done at once. They described it like this - if your face is a lawn, first we aerate it, then we mow it. I have only had the aerate part done before. I know it's going to bleed, and it will hurt because they are giving me percocet before.
Now I am just rambling.
I just have to take an anti anxiety med and breathe and in less than 4 hours I will be back at home.
All done! They had given me a xanax and 2 percocets, plus this numbing gel that even made my teeth numb, so I kept falling asleep. Granted I look a bloody mess, but.... ;D It's over and soon I will hopefully have nice perfect skin!
And because I did so good, the laser tech said that she will put me on the guinea pig list so when they have a procedure, they can give me a call and I can have it done for free!!

Awesome! I'm glad to hear it went well. Are you in pain now?
If it wasn't for the cost, I'd love to have more laser treatments done. My skin looked the best it ever has right after having a few. Mine didn't bleed though so I don't think it was quite as deep as the ones you had. I just had a strong burning sensation for about half a day, then a lot of peeling for a week or so.
You might have already said, but can you explain the purpose of the proceedure to me? What made it necessary? How does it help you have perfect skin?
I know you were asking Latte, but I want to chime in with my experience also! ;D
I had some scarring/hyperpigmentation marks on my face from previous acne. I just wasn't happy with my skin tone, so my dermatologist recommended going to the medical spa next door.
They suggested microlaser peels. I had a series of about 5 treatments over the course of a few months, and each one was equal to 3-4 microdermabrasions. They went deeper each time. It basically zaps the skin causing it to flake off and produce new cell growth.
Afterward my skin tone was more even and super soft, less oily, my pores appeared smaller, and I had fewer breakouts. It's also supposed to help with fine lines. It's seriously amazing!
My experience and treatment sound different and less invasive than Latte's though. I want to see a before and after pic!

I used to get zits every once in a while so I was fed up and went on accutane. Good idea in theory, bad idea for someone who is a picker! After my round of accutane was over I had some pretty bad scarring, which drove me batty.
The laser works to resurface your skin. So I have had 3 done prior to getting married, and it was quite an improvement, but I still wasn't 100% happy with it. Everyone else says it's not that bad, but the first thing I notice is the unevenness. And under my chin it was still pretty bad. So, with the combination laser's I had today, they expect it to be so much better. I am hopeful. I sent a picture though to my friends and they all were like

Yes I had profractional laser followed by a microlaser peel.
I will be able to show an after pic, but I was in such a hurry this morning I didn't get my own before. Although they took some this morning so I can get those. All I have right now is a HEY LOOK AT MY BLOODY FACE one. lol

Latte and Sloths, thanks for the info!
I have scars from acne, because I too am a picker. (I'm glad I'm not the only one.) I've been getting the really, really deep zits lately and have tried a new product, but I haven't seen much improvement. My face isn't as oily after a few weeks, but I'm still getting those zits. My 24th birthday is next month and I feel like a freaking teenager!
I'm going to give it another month or two and see how this does, but if there's no change, I'm going to a dermatologist. I'll definitely bring up this option!
Do it. It is not cheap, but in my opinion, it is probably one of the best things I have done for myself self confidence wise because even if I lost weight, I still wasn't happy with my skin.

Do you mind telling me how much it cost per treatment? Is it supposed to help acne?

lol. I probably would've taken a pic like that afterward too, Latte. I bet the results will be amazing! It definitely sounds like the discomfort will be worth it.
Now I'm itchin' to have something done about mine again. I don't breakout very often any more, but I still spend so much time worrying about my skin tone. Every little zit I get tends to leave a mark.
Sapphire, I used to get those really deep cystic acne nodules too and it was awful. I finally figured out what was causing mine though. It was an ingredient in mineral make-up called bismuth oxychloride... you're not using mineral make-up, are you? After I stopped using it my skin cleared right up. Then about a year later I started getting them again and discovered it was from food allergies.

Also, some people have sensitivities to dairy without knowing it and it can cause cystic acne. There's a lot of girls on the S&B board that have had this issue.
Sometimes it's hormonal though and BCP helps.
I don't know what you've already tried, but I just thought I'd throw out some ideas. I know how bad it sucks!
For me here it was $790 plus tax (5%) for the 2 lasers. When I used to do it in Calgary (2 hours away from me in a big city) it was $750 for one plus tax, so it's a better deal here. It really varies though from place to place.
And it really helped with my acne, like I pretty much never get any now, and only recently did I start to get tiny whiteheads under my neck and my last treatment was in Feb of 2009.

Sloths, I don't use mineral makeup. It very well could be a food allergy. I have a few food allergies that make my mouth itch, but that's all I know of. I have a friend whose face cleared up when she changed her diet after learning she is allergic to gluten. What's your food allergy?
Latte, that sounds pricey to me but totally worth it! I'm sorry I took over your post! It's been on my mind for months now and I haven't reseached it at all. Besides, I like reading these things from real people.

I think mine was around $150 per treatment and I had about 5 or 6 treatments total. It was expensive but worth it. Although, now I want to go back and have one like Latte's. I've also heard that it's sometimes covered by insurance if you get it done at a medical spa and your derm says it's for acne treatment and prevention.
My main food allergy is soy and I also have an intolerance to onions. I never had an issue with any foods until 2010 so it's adult onset. If I even just catch a trace of it I start developing a cystic acne spot by the end of the day. I have a LOT of other very serious symptoms too and get super sick, but I've heard some people with food allergies or intolerances sometimes only have the skin issue which is why I brought it up as a possibility for you.
