You can do a reverse phone lookup and pay a $2 fee for names if its listed. I've done this for businesses , I think it works the same for an individual.
I would only text really to make plans. I'm of the "sooner the better" mindset with meeting people. I don't want a texting relationship so I keep it to plans, meet and go from there.
Ditto mp. I used a google voice number. I'd communicate through the site and then text. I also like to have a phone conversation if possible before a date. Sometimes a phone call saves time and I'd be able to next them that way.

That's a good point.
So if someone gives you their number, would you say you prefer to chat through the site until you meet in person?
I suck at this. I need hand holding!
I actually don't give out my phone number until I've met someone. Like mcc, I'd rather meet quickly and figure out if we have a spark than create feelings for someone based on texts. I think texts work after you know someone and you know *how* they say things; before that, it's kind of an empty area for me and I don't want to be the one dreaming up characteristics to fill that space, you know? I've found in the past that I read more or didn't read enough into certain texts because I didn't know the person. I'm the same with email though; I'd rather email a few times and then meet versus emailing for weeks before meeting.
Whatever makes you comfortable, though. Almost all the guys have been respectful of my wishes and even a few have complimented me for protecting my identity (I won't reveal what my school name is, my last name, etc., until after I meet someone). Anyone who gets rude about it gets blocked immediately (just 1 comes to mind). If we plan to meet, I make sure we have the same details about meeting and what time; I figure if someone is a no-show I'll figure it out after about 15 minutes, lol.

I agree with mcc. It's not that I've ever worried too much about giving out my number though because I know if it got weird I could easily block. I wouldn't ever let someone know something like my address though until I'd gotten to know them much better, kwim?
