So the weather actually turned out better than expected. It was raining pretty good when we got to the start line and for the first hour of the race. By mile six it had stopped and was cloudy but warm-ish. I ended up wearing a hat, short sleeves, and shorts, and never got cold.
I felt really good during the run. Before I knew it I was halfway through. I hit a wall around mile 22, but picked up my pace again around mile 24 when I realized I was in a position to get my goal time.
My first goal was just to finish. My second was to go sub-5. My unofficial time was 4:45-something. I am very pleased with how it went. I would even do another one
Thank you ladies for all your advice and encouragement this week!
I knew you would survive. :-) Congrats on your first marathon & making your goal time!! I'm glad the weather worked out pretty well after all. Proud of you!
Woohoo!! Congrats, marathoner! Awesome job. Sounds like you turned less than desirable conditions into a great experience. Love the pic! So glad you had a great day!
I took your advice and made sure to put body glide EVERYWHERE I thought chafing might happen. I got one tiny spot from my bra but I didnt even know it was there til I took it off.
And we really lucked out on the weather. It start off raining, but by the time I crossed the finish line the sun was out. Thankfully it was a warm/humid rain and was still like mid 60s.
And yes I'm so glad he is OK. He ran and finished this race last year, so he was OK with not finishing if it came to that. We already are talking about signing up again next year! And hopefully it will go better for him.
