I have crown molding and staggered height cabinets also....I have some greenery on top of every cabinet...yes, they are dusty and yes they've been up there forever. My mom did that when we moved in here 10 years ago and she is my decorator so it might be old ladyish but that's what I've got
I'm in the process of putting up these. Just trying to decide which one to put where.
It has been empty up there for over 10 years but when I painted the walls I decided I wanted something up there. These are some framed shots taken by my bff.

I have some antique decanters up there that were my grandmother's, that I wouldn't have anywhere else to put otherwise. But there's only a few and they're fairly spaced out, so it really doesn't look cluttered.
It wasn't a space that I felt a need to decorate, more like I had these things that I wanted to put somewhere safe and special and that seemed the perfect place.

I am now jealous of shananagins and cereal's kitchens.
I have mine decorated with different pitchers that I've picked up. I think it looks nice, but no way in hell will I post it here only to be told that it's tacky. lol.

Well, I already know you have great taste since we have matching lamps now!
Not anymore. I had a few things but I just took them down a few weeks ago to pack and it was so nasty. They aren't going up at the new house. No more cabinet junk for me!

We bought vintage cookie jars for our wedding and those are now on top of the cabinets. They aren't design chic or anything but people comment on them and they have a good story attached. They are also used to house cookies from time to time, which is nice.

I have a friend that puts vintage cookbooks up there. Just funny/unusual ones she finds in thrift shops. She stacks them one on top of the other with the spines facing out. It's really cute.
No. But my H has taken to putting things up there when he doesn't know which cabinet they go in. So that space is currently decorated with water bottles, pots, china platters, bar tools and Pyrex baking dishes.

My mom decorates up there like Martha fucking Stewart. But she used to be an interior designer. So. You better believe there's no dust up there though.
We don't have space but if we did I would decorate with booze.

"I was thinking about getting off on demand, but it sounds like I should be glad that I didn't"
I have a vase and bouquet of fake flowers (I swear it isn't tacky looking), an empty growler from a microbrewery we went to once and a few of our champagne glasses that won't fit into our cupboards. Every few months I take that shit down and dust/wash it.
Mine have plenty of space for something up there and the former owners had a ton of stuff up there, but I've left it empty so far and I think it will stay that way. Seems less cluttered to me.
We've got nothing up there, it would just get all greasy and dusty. I really don't need another thing to clean!
I'm surprised to say I like the fork & spoon shananagins posted (I normally hate that sort of stuff). But it's such a lovely kitchen it would be difficult to ruin it!
