I thought I wanted to, I thought I needed to fill the space. I'm looking at Pinterest pictures and I keep thinking these kitchens would look better with less clutter up there.

I always thought I'd want to, but I was wrong. It just looks too cluttered. Maybe if I had higher ceilings. Right now I only have our wedding champagne glasses and two empty champagne bottles that my parents had personalized for us for an anniversary.
ETA: I wash the champagne glasses every few months. They don't get gross.
Actually, I thought I needed to do this five years ago before Pinterest existed. We're just now redoing our cabinets and went to Pinterest for pictures.

My Mom and Grandma always kept their large china up there. Like giant pitchers out of milk glass. Mom keeps Dickens Village Houses up there as well. And one of the cabinets used to have fake flowers up there over the fridge but our old cat kept climbing up there to sleep and knocking them off. Now it has houses.
Our cabinets go to the ceiling and I hate it. I cannot wait until we put in new ones and I can put larger pieces of glass or decorative items up.

I have seen home reno shows where they put some kind of crown molding up there to keep the dust from getting all over them. I know a few people who have put fake vines up there. The amount of dust on that must be staggering.

Lights up there look nice. I have a giant spoon and fork hanging on the wall in the space above mine. I like that it fills the space, but doesn't look cluttered. Let me see if I can post a pic. . .
i do. it started in the old house when i had stuff that didn't fit in my cabinets.
i like it. and i make sure to take everything down and clean it every few months.
also, H just asked my why i was taking pictures of our cabinets. i told him why. he asked if we were seriously having tops-of-cabinets discussions on the nest. i asked him why he was surprised. he had no answer.

No space, our cabinets go to the ceiling. It's extremely unlikely it would be decorated if we had that setup. It'd most likely be a combination of clutter and dust.

My DH collects starbucks mugs from all the cities he goes to. He has like 30, there's nowhere else to put them so that's where they live. I like the way it looks but we have no more cabinet space so he needs to not go anywhere new lol.
At Christmas I make him pack them up and I put lighted garland up there.

Yeah, I've got stuff up there--dishes, wine racks and bottles, bird houses, Mexican pottery...an eclectic assortment. I give everything a thorough cleaning every few months. To me, it gives the kitchen a warm "homey" feel. Makes me happy to look at, so there's that. I like happy.

i think the question is really more a testament of how little he understands us!
I don't decorate up there, but I also have crown molding and some of the cabinets are staggered and a bit higher than others, so I think it would look weird. Also, I'd have no idea what to put up there and kind of prefer the minimalist look.
