I have a two-year old iPhone 4 (not even a 4S!)....and the home button has gone wonky. Sometimes it works the first time I push it, but sometimes it takes like 5, 10, 15 pushes to return me to the home screen. Which is really annoying.
Has anyone had this happen? If I take it to an Apple Store, can they fix it? Until then, has anyone discovered any awesome new gestures in IOS 7 that will return me to the home screen by some kind of swiping magic?
A quick fix until you get a chance to go to an Apple store would be to go into your Settings, then General, then Accessibility, and go to AssistiveTouch and turn that on. This will give you a portable home button (and a few other functions) that you can move around on your screen, to help in the meantime until you get it fixed.

This is happening to my husband. He's had the phone for 3 years. We haven't visited the Apple store yet, (the closest one is still far away). He just keeps bitching (read: whining) that it's not working.

This happened to me. Since I had it for under a year, they tested it in the Apple store and then replaced it on the spot. Back up your phone before you take it in! I lost a ton of stuff.

This is what I've been stuck doing since.... hmmm... May or June maybe? It works fine.

I might be slow on the uptake but if you are in an app, how do you get to your home screen to switch or close it?

MY DH told me that with the new ios7 update, there is a floating home button on your touch screen in case your home button goes out. No idea if he is right or not. Have you done the upgrade?

After turning on AssistiveTouch, a portable home button will appear on your screen. You can move it around to position it in the bottom or upper corners or anywhere you'd like, it is always moveable. You can also tap it at anytime, including while in an app.
After touching it, it will open a box with four quick-tap functions. Once in that screen, the bottom button acts exactly as your home button. You can tap it once to take you to your home screen. Tapping it twice, will bring up your open apps so you can close them or switch to another recently used one. This can be done while in an app too.
The AssistiveTouch button fades while in an app so you can see around it better. Just touch it at anytime to open it, even when it is faded.
