This.  In my family, my mom and her sisters still take sauna's together with no clothes on.  Growing up, in their finnish tradition, that's just how it was.  I wouldn't think twice if my mom took my 4 year old daughter into the sauna with her.  I sauna by myself now, and that's no big deal either, but if I wanted to join them it wouldn't be a big deal.

I don't really take issue with relatives bathing together. I remember showering with my cousins when we would camp out together. It felt a little more safe having someone in there with me. As long as an inappropriate relationship isn't taking place, I don't see a problem with it.

I do think your coworker has a broken filter with regards to what is appropriate to share at work. That's the weird part, here.

I'll reserve my judgement since we don't seem to know if the mother knew and was ok with it or not. I know some families where that would not be shock worthy in the slightest. Obviously a lot of people would not be ok with it.

yes.  i'm not judging the bath thing, since their situations are unknown.

but if my sil took a bath with my kid, naked, i'd flip my everloving shit.  because i damn well know my situation and that's outside the bounds.  WAY FREAKING OUTSIDE.*

I was taking a shower on vacation and my then-3 year old niece who had just gotten out of the ocean came in to the bathroom, said "Who's in there?" I told her it was Auntie, and she said "well, I need to be clean" and walked in.

Sometimes there is no stopping kids, but her situation is a little weird.

Wow, I can't believe she would tell people. Maybe it is cultural? A friend of mine is from Germany, and she said her kids (boy and girl) still had baths together in middle school. That made me super uncomfortable. She said it is common where she was from, but dude - a 14 yo boy and 12 yo girl in a bath tub? **shudder**

ETA: I think it would be just as weird if they were the same sex.

I don't know. I think it would depend on how often and how long she keeps the kid. And if she's particularly close with the kid's parents, as well.

I've gone to saunas and communal bath houses with my mom since I was little and you usually have to be naked. So it's unlikely that I'd be uncomfortable with other people's nakedness.

I used to shower with my cousins & my aunt (not all at once lol). My sister and I showered together until we were older, too. Nothing weird about it to me.

I realize this might not be normal to some people but I grew up with it being NBD. And we are Greek so there's that. Maybe its more acceptable in our culture?

ETA: Not weird third cousins that I never saw, but my close brother-and-sister-like cousins I grew up with.
