H and I supposed are traveling out of the country on 10/10, and he waited until the last minute to apply for a passport. Today he received a letter from the State dept stating he sent in the wrong information. It turned out that the post office agent sent in the wrong birth document. He went back to to post office to make them aware of the error and they sent his documents back via Priority mail. What are the chances that he receives his passport in time? Has anyone had a similar experience?

Well hopefully they get everything sorted out for him before October 1st. If the government does shut down next week passport processing will be affected.
He didn't pay for expedited services originally, buy he will once they confirm receipt of his information. I completely forgot to factor in the government shutdown.
How close is your nearest passport office? You might even wait until you can get it in person.
We're about 2 hours away from Chicago, so it would be doable. I'm hoping the processing time is a little shorter than indicated on the website. Ds and I received our passports in 3 weeks back in February even though the standard processing time was 4-6 weeks. We should be fine as long as they get his stuff in a day or two, and he's able to expedite it.
