So today we had cheer practice. (I coach at Lucy's school, 5-8th graders). And the season is just starting in the last few weeks. So today I decided to name the captains.
Kelly and Jessica (not their real names duh) already knew they were and have been acting as captains- leading stretches and helping me out a bunch. We usually have three, though.
We decided to pick Brittany. But Kelly and Jessica told her before practice that they'd picked another girl instead. And she was very cool with it, but I knew she was a little disappointed too.
At the end of practice, when I announced the captains, I said Kelly and jess, and then looked over to Brit, who gestured to the other girl...and when I said Brit's name- oh my god, you guys! She cried. It was awesome.
She's such a good girl. I know money's kind of tight in her fam-her twin brother is Ina wheelchair and he gets a lot of the attention, naturally. I'm so glad we picked her. She thanked me afterwards
Huh. I kind of think it was mean to tell her beforehand that someone else had been chosen. Why say anything at all? Was the girl Kelly and Jessica said was chosen in on it? I feel like if a little girl heard she was chosen but then found out she really wasn't, that would suck.
