spoiler spoiler spoiler
I had figured out who the killer was, but I did not see the motive/love story coming at all. I assumed it was going to have something to do with Danny bullying Tom.

You all finally caught up!
I love this show. I'm not sure what they will do with the next season, but I hope they make it as good as the first. And that they keep David Tennant. I love him. I have read in a few places that they may be focusing on how the town recovers. This makes me a little nervous, lol.
They did such an awesome job with the writing, the actors, everything. It is just so good.

We thought it might be him, but holy.cow the back story! I cried through just about the whole episode and my jaw was hanging open during the flashback.

FOx has not yet picked up the American version, but it is in the works. The next season of Broadchuch is written, but that is all I've heard. I don't think they have made decisions about casting
Also, BBC America did NOT show the scene when Mark goes to see Joe in jail. I've found a piece of that online, but not even the whole thing. I was peeved they took that scene out, because it was super intense and the second best in that whole episode.

Just time, I think. If you youtube search broadchruch jail scene, you'll get some dude talking about the finale, but around the 3 min mark you can see part of it. It's really great and redeemed Mark a bit in my eyes.
Also, I read something ( maybe EW online?) that the writer is working with Fox about an American version/cast. NO NO NO NO NO. It will ruin it.
They are, and they will screw it up. In fact, a version has already been made...the Killing. It was based on Forbrydelsen (a Danish show) and so was Broadchurch.
I have re-watched the part in the prison so many times (I finished several weeks ago). Ellie was just so amazing, I had to see it again and again. When DI Hardy sits next to her in the interrogation room, I pretty much lose it.
ETA: I missed the part about BBC cutting the part where Mark visits Joe in jail. WHAT THE CRAP? I thought PBS was the only network pulling that stuff...the Downton PBS edits are abysmal.
Ok Miss Phryne Fisher Since you've seen the missing scene, I request a dramatic re-enactment. You have 1 hour.
LOL well it has been a few weeks. However, what happens is that Mark leaves the house and goes to the jail. Joe is in what looks like solitary confinement, basically a big white room with a little slot for to see him through/give him food. I can't remember much of what was said but it was a good scene. IIRC, it was mostly Joe telling him he hadn't touched him but he wanted to.
General consensus on this from everyone I have talked to since is that no way no how would any victims parent get to visit the not-yet-convicted prisoner in jail, but that is what happened.

The officer who let him in said something along the lines of "you were never here" or "I didn't let you do this". Something to that effect.
The perspective of the shots was amazing, too. Joe was all tiny against the wall and Mark's face was huge. "Why didn't you kill your own boy and leave mine alone?" OMG.

You can buy the episode on itunes.
I honestly think it would be worth the money for this scene. It was amazing.
I also liked " He's bigger than me and there are cameras everywhere". And then she kicks the shit out of him anyway.

Right! I forgot you can get it on iTunes. And yes. absolutely worth it for that scene.
She was amazing. Her character delevopment was brilliant.

When she spits out "he was eleven" and then starts kicking the shit out of him, the rage is just so real. I have never seen her in anything before but I can tell you I will be seeking her out now. She was AMAZING. My favorite of the whole cast, and I am a HUGE David Tennant fan.

Oh and I know I have posted a lot in this thread, but was anyone else bugged by Beth saying "how could you not know what was going on in your own house" or whatever, to Ellie? I don't get it...I know it was an emotional time but seriously Beth knew basically nothing about what was going on in her house. Ellie knew a lot more about her own house, and it was a sneaky adult doing it, not a dumb teenager or eleven year old.

Agreed. Her, David Tennant and Jodie Whittaker (Hello, St Trinians!) in that order. Just completely wonderful actors who made it seem like you were standing there with them, not watching a show. God. I want to go home, lock the kids out of the bedroom and watch it all over again.
Its nice to finally be able to talk about it. I've been holding it all in since July!

I was just reading the IMDB forums on this...did they also cut the scene where Ellie goes home to get some items? The slug scene/the walking the house with the guy who has the hots for her/the "we were so happy here" scene? Note to BBCA editors: CUT NOTHING WITH ELLIE IT IS ALL GOLD.

Yes! I understand her upset but her whole family was keeping things from her!

NOOOOOO! WTF BBC-A?? No no no no
All of this makes me wonder what else they cut from previous episodes? Did they cut the scene where JAck Marshall sees all of the tabloid papers with his son and wife on them?

Yeah but not one of those things was that one of them killed someone! That was a good scene too. So heartbreaking for both.
Did they show Beth going to meet that woman whose child was also killed? Their chat in the diner?
I don't know the answer but I have heard some say that her story is going to be the focus of season 2. They better make a season 2. And it better have Ellie AND Alec.

If Olivia Colman isn't there, I'll be pissed. It would be awesome if she and Alec would do some PI stuff or something. anything, really. Just have them both on all the time.

When Ellie said that to creepy Susan in the interrogation room, I said to my H " That line is going to come back and bite her in the ass". But we thought it was because of Tom erasing the phone emails and in general being shady. I'm not surprised they tied that back in with Beth, at all.

I forgot to check back in with this. I kept trying to remind myself that I would be completely broken if somebody murdered my child, but in the end I just really disliked Beth. REALLY.
I neither liked nor disliked Beth. I think she was sympathetic in that you could palpably feel the depth of her grief and despair, but I also wonder what she was like before Danny's death and suspect I wouldn't have liked her much.
The actress definitely did a good job in that respect. I mostly started disliking her when she met with the other mother. I don't know what it was about that conversation, but by the end I was just internally screaming "OMG shut up, Beth"
