We haven't heard anything via the hospital or NIH about what will happen the grant money. I'm curious and suddenly very grateful I'm not paid off a grant. [TBH I don't even know if the NIH would be affected, they already cut funding, but still.]

A friend that works for NIH would be furloughed, but I think she is funded by grant money.
my dad was "essential" during the Y2K turnover (he was a computer person). but then wasn't essential after that because the world didn't implode. it had an effect on his self esteem. ha!

Did they basically just tell you if that you wake up Tuesday and hear that there is a shutdown stay home? Or is the person that updates the OPM website considered essential? LOL
I have been handling a lot of admin stuff since I am going on leave soon (I am a contractor) and my boss just told me a bunch of stuff I need to get done now just in case there is a shutdown.

No- we're supposed to operate business as usual on Tuesday. We've been appropriated 4 hours of work per person. So, we're supposed to come in, work 4 hours, perform any "shutdown functions," then leave if nothing is worked out.

They haven't really said anything to us here. I assume they have some sort of plan for what happens if there is a shutdown but who knows. A selfish part of me is just glad I was already planning on not being paid for Oct, Nov, and Dec because of maternity leave so even if the worst happens I am good.
What pisses me off about all these threats of shut down is how much money we are freaking wasting because of all the meetings, discussions, etc about it.
We haven't gotten our "this could happen" letter yet. I'm still hoping for the best.
Yea, I haven't heard anything. I'm VA, and I hear that they are not affected, but I'm pretty sure my position is not necessary. But I don't even have concrete info, so who knows?
