I just found out that the father of an individual that I go to for assistance in another office but still under the same component level has passed away. Included in the e-mail is her home address to send sympathy cards, etc. Would you think it odd to receive a sympathy card from an acquaintance at work?
When my grandmother passed away about a month ago, my co-workers bought me a pink dogwood tree and gave me a sympathy card. We are a small group of 7 people so it was really nice. I think getting support from anywhere at a time like that is a good thing.

No. When my mom died, I loved any and all sympathy cards, even if they just signed their name. It was so comforting to me to know that people were thinking of me and/or her, no matter how random. I still think of this guy at my office so fondly because he sent me one. So sweet.
