I think you need to wait another two weeks to see if you're healing on schedule before making any lasting decisions. It's still September, you have time.

Wait I don't understand. When does the 12 weeks of FMLA end, independent of your PTO?
ETA: I would say exhaust your FMLA (right to take leave) now for your maternity leave, and as far as PTO goes, leave yourself at least 1-2 weeks of sick or vacation time to use. Particularly going into winter, your baby may be sick a lot from daycare and you'll need the flexibility.

I would wait til the last possible minute to make any decision. My emotions were so up and down during maternity leave.
Still, though, I might choose between options B or C. I would take as much time as possible (C), assuming that DH could take time off if DS got sick and I was out of PTO.
I don't know your situation, but I wouldn't try to "save" FMLA time as long as you have sick and vacation leave.
I see FMLA as for BIG life events - obviously giving birth, a serious illness, etc. Just having a week "out there" isn't a benefit to me. Again- that's being said based on having sick and vacation time.
So- my answer would probably be b. I wanted as much time at home w/ DS as I could possibly get!
right now, i say B. because you aren't healed and trying to go back to work might be too much. you don't want to reinjure yourself or further prolong the healing process.
you can always change your mind.
unless you already have some weeklong vacations planned, my guess is that the 2 weeks of sick time will be sufficient to cover your baby's illnesses in the coming year. even at daycare, my kid wasn't sick THAT long her first year. she was sick frequently, but often only actually out for a day because things were minor. can you alternate with your husband?

The 12 weeks ends the second week of November.
HR explained it that if I have FMLA time remaining, I can basically use it whenever I want/need, and there's nothing they can say or do, as long as I use it before his first birthday. I was just thinking it might be a smart/safe thing to have a few days filed away. But they've never once denied a vacation/sick request in the past, so I don't know if it's worth it.
Yeah I don't think it is. The sick time you have should be sufficient. I'd use up your FMLA now, give yourself the extra time to heal and be with your baby.
Feel better soon! Do you have enough help so you can rest?
gotcha. take it day by day; you'll know what's right when you're ready (even if you're nervous . i'm sorry you aren't healed yet. i wish you could enjoy your planned X weeks off without that extra complication.
