I was friends with a guy through high school (became friends when I was ~15) and remained friends with him for about 5 years. I suspect he always had feelings for me, but we really separated when ex and I started dating. I'm sure you will all be very surprised to know that ex didn't like me having male friends. Anyway, I just got a VM from this guy out of the blue. What are the chances this guy genuinely just wants to be friends or is he aware that I'm now single again and trying to make a move?
I'd love to have some guy friends to do things that my girlfriends won't but I don't want to lead this guy on if he has other intentions.

Honestly? I think you're way overthinking it. He left you a voicemail...give him a call back to see what he wants instead of analyzing his "intentions" behind the call.

You're probably right It's just bizarre to get a call from someone I haven't talked to in 7 years saying "Hey, haven't talked to you in a while, let's get drinks."
Andplusalso, if you do meet up, you can just be REALLY upfront and say that you are not looking for a relationship but would like to be friends.
This is probably the route I will take. He's a nice guy, but was led on very easily and also tended to be pretty sensitive. Oh well, we'll see. People change many times over in 7 years.
