I ran my first 5k race today with my husband. The fastest I have run that distance was 33:54, so I was hoping to break 32. We stopped for a minute to help someone who fell (twice), and then I had to stop again to re-tie my shoe, so I didn't think I had a shot. When we got close to the finish line I was really surprised to see that the clock was just over 29. I ran a little harder and finished at 29:53. I was kind of gasping for air for a few minutes, but after I recovered I couldn't stop grinning!
One thing I will say, is I do not like pre-race jitters. My legs felt like rubber and I was so shakey through the first half mile. Because of that, I started off way too fast and mile one was under 9 minutes, so the last two sucked hard. I think I might keep going with this running thing though, not sure why I fought it so long, lol.
