I love my Bravo shows, some HGTV, obviously my ABC, NBC, CBS shows & etc. what should I do, pay for cable or go this route? Keep in mind I'm not a DVD buyer (don't even have one), oh and I have no gaming system either. I lived for the wii when my ex had it, but alas that's gone & I'd wii bowl & we streamed Netflix back when they had crap on there.
I have Amazon Prime and love it! Certain networks have certain contracts though. For instance, I just started watching Elementary from CBS and its not on prime (I have On Demand though). There's also no HBO shows or AMC (Breaking Bad and Walking Dead). I watch tons of other shows on it though. Love Amazon Prime!
ETA Also, I get free shipping on most of my Amazon orders.
I love amazon prime. You can get movies, tv shows, free shipping, and more. With that being said if there are particular channels you want to watch, and aren't much of a movie person, I would just get cable. I LOVE amazon prime, but i have it in addition to cable. If i had to have one or the other, it would be cable.

I can only really comment on Netflix and Apple TV. We had Netflix and liked it. We streamed it through a blu-ray DVD player. Not sure of the price now - it was about $8/month when we had it. I'm not sure their selection is as good as it used to be so it might need to be combined with another service for better tv show coverage. Now we have Apple TV. It hooks up directly to the TV and works through wifi. We have primarily Apple electronics so this works really well for us. We buy movies through iTunes occasionally and we bought the final season of Breaking Bad so that we could watch it shortly after it aired. The device itself was $100 and shows and movies are fairly expensive $23 for final part of Breaking Bad Season 5, $10-$15 for a lot of movies. We also stock up on iTunes gift cards when they go on sale around Thanksgiving so we save a little money on shows and movies in the long run. You could get a Roku device. I believe they are compatible with Prime and Netflix, but not positive. As for major network shows, if you live in a fairly urban or suburban area you can probably get those through an antenna. That is what we did in Sacramento, CA, and what my parents do now both in Atlanta and near Detroit. Antennas are about $30.

I use Amazon Prime and Netflix and I love them both (but probably Prime moreso). If you have particular regular shows that you insist upon, then I can't help you. The one thing that annoys me sometimes is that if I want to watch something, I have to specifically commit to it rather than just randomly finding it channel surfing. I miss channel surfing for randomness.
But I haven't had cable in at least 4 years, and I don't see myself going back to it.

Huluplus has a lot of the latest cable shows and a ton of old tv shows, specialty shows, and just all kinds of stuff. Netflix is great if you watch movies and documentaries. Also, amazing if you have kids, because you get a ton of Disney stuff. Yes, this includes a wide selection of their movies.
You may want to go cable, though. It sounds like you want a lot of the basic stations, which many services just may not carry.
We have netflix, hulu plus, and prime. We never ever channel surfed. We had our list of dvr shows that we watched days after they came on. I took our dvr list and cross-checked with hulu plus. The only ones they didn't have were AHS and Walking Dead, which are available on Prime for a buck an episode. All of that combined is still WAY cheaper than cable.
The only time I slightly regret it is during the Olympics.

Hulu+ is good to have during fall TV season because they have new episodes the next day. It kind of sucks during the summer.
Netflix has a lot of good shows and is good to have year round.
Amazon Prime is a good deal if you order stuff from there a lot and have a Kindle. You can check out 1 free Kindle book per month. It's more expensive up front but less per month than Hulu+ or Netflix.
We pay for both Netflix and Hulu+ a month because I like both for different reasons. It ends up being ~$16/month for TV. We have a Sony streaming player so that we can watch these services on our TV rather than our computers.
Grab Netflix (for their original content and TV shows like Lost, HIMYM, The Tudors, Supernatural, etc.)
Prime is pretty awesome too, get that one as well.
Skip Hulu, that one is just lame. Plus they still have commercials in their shows, which is annoying.
Instead, supplement Prime and Netflix with Project Free TV. It's where I watch Breaking Bad, Mad Men, etc. You'll also get your Bravo and other reality shows on there.
Tell me more about this. We got rid of cable since we rarely watch tv. I miss HGTV. We have netflixed Breaking Bad and its killing me that we haven't seen this final season.
I use Hulu Plus more than anything; they don't have all the current shows but they have a number of them from most of the major networks (except CBS which is lame.)
I do use Netflix to watch older shows or the previous season of current shows.
We stream them using our PS3 and Apple TV. I prefer Apple TV - I can watch things directly from websites using Apple TV.
