She got married at 15 and had my Dad at 17, so she had a rough start in life and no education. I get that.
But she is teerrrrible with money. My Dad is the only one in his family who got an education (worked himself through college and grad school) and so he is the only one on financial stable ground.
He has helped her out tons in the past. The last time she called him saying she was essentially destitute and he offered to finish out the basement in their town home up there FOR FREE (it's HUGE and above ground on one side) and she got MAD, saying she wasn't going to live in a basement. She gets mad at him and gives him the silent treatment constantly, and is always asking for something, and she was kind of a shitty mom to him.
Then she sold her fathers farm that she inherited and has been burning through that money for awhile. Now it's running out and she's been telling my Dad she's going to commit suicide when it's gone. Wtf.
She found out he got a classic car for his bday and said "I bet I could live off of the money you spend just on car insurance."
Wtf lady, he gets your "hints". He already gave you tons of money. You suck with money and he doesn't want to throw any more away by giving it directly to you.
And she's kind of nasty. She called my aunt on the other side, who is one of the most selfless and polite women I know "ugly" because she's aged badly. Ugh.
It honestly sounds like she's a little emotionally stunted, like she stopped developing at age fifteen and was kind of frozen there. Because this is exactly how a fifteen-year-old would act. And I'd guess your grandfather probably indulged this behavior. Is he still in the picture?
I think you're spot on. I used to buy her schtick, until I was college age, so that about lines up.
My Grandpa is remarried. My Grandma has had 4 husbands, all named Bill, for real.

Yes! I firmly believe some people stop developing when something majorly majorly traumatic happens
I'm guessing knocked up teen tossed out to be married. So sad.

It's been shown time and time again re: abuse and emotional development in a multitude of studies. It's something I've had to deal with for a very long time - generationally, actually. It comes up consistently in abused and neglected kids, kids placed in the foster and legal system...
I think Lucy is spot on here. I'm sorry you're having to deal with it and I'm sorry she's never dealt with it. It's really unfortunate.

She was married well before she got pregnant, but I'm sure being 17 and a Mom in a not great marriage was traumatic enough.
Bill #4 died about 5 years ago, but now she has a boyfriend (not named Bill! Yay!) and he seems like a nice laid back, drama free guy. I like him. I'm not sure how they mesh. Maybe this IS her reeled in. Lol.
