I'm sure it will shut down. Unfortunately we still don't have clear information about who will need to keep working and who won't. I'll probably be working (thankfully) but might be doing different job duties until things are back up and running.
Neither side is working in the spirit of compromise. Both are acting selfishly and childishly.
It looks like the House may get something together to give things a few more days, here's hoping!
I disagree that the blame lies evenly on both sides. House Republicans are holding their own party hostage. There is no meaning to the posturing they're pulling. The ACA will go into effect, whether or not they shut down the government by refusing to concede.
The American electorate voted, collectively, to re-elect Obama and implement this healthcare plan. Why the minority opinion seems to think it can overpower the majority in this respect baffles me. Particularly when their attempts, at this point, will not have the desired effect. They're playing with peoples' lives by refusing to concede a point of law, and it's unfathomably disgusting.
Adding to that, when the debt ceiling issues came up in 2011, the Dem controlled Senate and the White House compromised because of their losses in the 2010 elections, seeing it as what the citizens voted for. I am livid that after the 2012 elections (that occurred AFTER the SC upheld the ACA) where Obama was re-elected, and the Dems continued to control the Senate, a minority of the House is basically holding the country hostage because they are stomping their feet because they lost. The ACA was a HUGE part of the 2012 elections and the country, as a whole, made their decision to keep Obama and not elect Mittens.
And as a former DC resident, the impact on DC makes me livid. Some jackass from Idaho gets to make decisions so there's no trash pick up there. I know the mayor was discussing the idea of designating all DC gov't employees "essential" but I'm not sure if he's actually going to do that.

I'm so glad I'm mostly in meetings today. Otherwise, I'd be obsessively reading every shutdown story I can find. I'm getting so anxious. I could do a few days, maybe up to two weeks, but I just dumped all of my savings into the house, and what hasn't gone into the house is going towards my trip to Miami this weekend, which I planned months ago. I'll be screwed if this goes on any extended period of time. I'd have to ask my parents for help.

It's probably sad that I am reading the comment section on both CNN and FoxNews, and how unintelligible the ones on FoxNews are.
And I know that there are plenty of Republicans who are pissed that the Tea Party assholes are ruining their party (which is LOL anyway, because their party has been broken for a long time now, but I suppose that is neither here nor there).
"In a departure from past shutdowns, Mayor Vincent Gray has informed the Office of Management and Budget that he has deemed all city employees "essential." The district's own attorney general has declared the mayor's plan illegal."
Republicans seriously don't understand the definition of compromise. I thought this was a great analogy:
"Obviously the Republicans are trying to get something they want, but what exactly are Democrats getting in return? I don't get it. If my neighbor threatens to steal my car, and then comes back and says he'll settle for just stealing my TV set, what kind of compromise is that? What am I getting out of the deal?"

Adding in that the Democrats agreeing to continue the sequestration cuts was a compromise. The right has given up nothing. Found out we will get the paycheck due tomorrow but after that it could be IOUs.

Yep. Plus if the senate gave in now we would just be here again in Nov with them asking to defund more.
The thing is, even a lot of Senate republicans think this is crazy cakes.
I live close to San Antonio which has the most military installations in the nation. A LOT of federal employees work there including my dad. I'm terrified. He's the breadwinner. Thankfully I think USAA is going to help those in need if it does shit down.
Yeah, USAA will offer 0% loans for all federal workers I think (and military for sure if the military pay bill doesn't pass). They had the same option the last time this happened.
Where are you finding info that USAA is offering 0% loans for Federal workers? I can only find reference to military members on their website.

I said I think they will, so if USAA's website doesn't mention it then it's probably only military. I'd still call them and ask.
I was just hoping you saw it somewhere so I could forward to DH for him to call about and have something specific to reference:( I'm not a Fed and am a member through my Dad (retired Fed) and Granddad (was military and Fed), DH is a Fed--so I was hoping it was maybe just not showing up under my login. Phooey
"While much of official Washington on Saturday somberly faced the likelihood of a government shutdown, the most conservative members of the House sported a different expression.
They were smiling.
“We’re very excited,” said Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.). “It’s exactly what we wanted, and we got it.”

Oh, fuck them right in the ear.
I hope this comes back to bite them in a big way next election cycle.

What a fucking bitch.
Do they not realize they're fucking with people's lives?!? I hate them all.

Idiots like Cruz and Perry really make me embarrassed to live in TX! After everything Perry has pulled with education and now medical, I think a lot more people are starting to turn on the republican party.

I think this is going to be the end of the tea party being represented in congress. Or at least the beginning of the end. Even their supporters are going to be pissed off at the loss of their income and at the epic waste of money this will be.
Congress should know not to fuck with peoples paychecks.
